MSPs want to see new guidance for councils operating non-statutory versions of named person before they discuss the petition further.

Highland Council has been urged to carry out a full-scale review of its own version of named person, which has been going for years. Thurso and North-west Caithness Councillor Struan Mackie says a "clearer understanding" is needed of how it benefits children.

A spokesman for NO2NP said ’families will have access to a non-statutory Named Person if they want it. That’s what the policy should have looked like from day one. But the Govt wanted a network of state snoopers tasked with monitoring every child. What’s left is quite different’.
