@SwiftOnSecurity You don't understand PoW at all. The security comes from the cost, and if you produce something you can sell you just reduce the cost and raise the floor. Not to mention it would never be as efficient as a coordinated operation nor could it adapt, and it shouldn't do either.

@TheGingerBill Depends on the goal. As the user of a library i usually just speed run minimal working examples of the basics. Examples doc is great. But hey if you're not using AI to sort through docs and source you may be over-principled.

I do wonder how people read documentation at times, since I am far from the norm. I read a lot of source code of even heavily documented stuff, because it is usually quicker for me to understand how something works by reading it. What do y'all do?!

@TheGingerBill @oxcrowx It's easy as a first idea to build the more complex concept. It takes some thinking to strip away machinery, but programmers are certainly not thoughtless. Like you said, they see no reason to simplify and even often enjoy the complexity.

@oxcrowx People want complexity because they think they require complexity AND because people think doing complex things is means they are doing more work because if it was simpler, it must mean they are not doing "work". It's a weird psychological thing many people have.

To me, there are only few modern languages that can be called simple: Odin, Austral, OCaml, Scheme, Lua, C3, and Go. Most other widely loved / used languages like Rust, Zig, C++ etc. are fairly complex. Now the dilemma is: Users seem to prefer the complex languages more. Why?

@RustCompiler @TheGingerBill @ladybirdbrowser C++ being janky is Rust's main claim to fame. Being less jank than C++ is a low bar to clear. Pretending Rust doesn't also introduce an entire set of constraints, as if it were just C++ polished up, is silly. Both because of the conceptual baggage and general ugliness of Rust.

@TheGingerBill @ladybirdbrowser The C++ programmers i talk to all say that Rust is what modern C++ is destined to be. Think of Rust as C++ but with better defaults and much more concise core design without 30 years of baggage.

@Ambersulfr @vxunderground You subtly misunderstood the Bill and its massive infringement on freedom. What you are talking about is only superficially related. "You like it" let me be honest you aren't sure what you're talking about.

I don’t hate the idea but I’d have to see how they implement it. For example, I’ve told all of my kids’ devices they are used by a child. If I don’t have to prove that and it trusts me because I did all the things to configure it, incredibly useful. I would then expect there to be criminal liability for any company that serves any content that’s pornographic in nature to that computing device. If that’s not the case, it’s useless. Many (maybe most) parent control systems are awful, fail frequently, and sometimes don’t work at all. If there isn’t massive liability to the company, paid to the victimized family to provide a lifetime of therapy and health care for whatever damage is done, then it’s pointless.

Because this is getting momentum fast, and some people appear to have not read the proposed bill, let's discuss it for a second. The bill wants to introduce "age signaling". Instead of a person having to submit their government issued identification to every website, or vendor, or whatever, it is performed locally on the machine. The idea would be it eliminates the burden from vendors and it then falls onto the user. Basically, the idea (on paper) is something like Discord can ask an OS "how old are you?" and the OS (hypothetically) gives an age range. However, the bill is incredibly vague on how age signaling would work. It proposes the idea of an age interface for vendors to work with, but it doesn't give any description on how this would be achieved. The bill indicates it would rely on self-reporting and other (e.g. I am 18 years old), however if someone self-reports their age then they can easily lie, hence defeating the entire purpose of age verification. Interestingly, it proposes a fine for lying about your age. If you're an adult and a minor lies about their age, the adult who owns the device is fined $2,500. If the intentionally allowed the minor to bypass the age interface, it is a $7,500 fine. This is clearly a rough draft. It leaves a lot of room for interpretation. It is incredibly ambiguous and boils down to how much you trust the government or OS developers.
vx-underground@vxunderground

United States Colorado Sen. Matt Ball and Rep. Amy Paschal have authored bill SB26-051. SB26-051 would require Operating System, such as Windows or Linux, to perform age verification on users which then third party apps can leverage via API to ensure someone's age.

@TheGingerBill This is the answer to your own question. People adept at keyboard driven workshops would love a great GUI app that slots into their workflow- they aren't against GUI wholesale. Look at Omarchy which IMO is too terminal based but, importantly, tackles that GUI problem.

With regards to GUIs specifically, I know most of the libraries/frameworks out there are not that great, especially for native apps. Many require loads of hoops to even get something basic on the screen. And then some of the libraries don't even have basic keyboard navigation.

I understand when you have no choice but to use a terminal, but actively loving it? I have never actually understood that. I swear it's either Stockholm Syndrome or a lack of vision of what anything but terminals can do (I'm being vague on purpose).

Thinking more about the problems of marketing Odin, I've realized part of the issue is that my attitude and general philosophy behind Odin is very English, and not American. I'm not American with that bombastic advertisement; I let Odin speak for itself.

@TheGingerBill @dubya_brian @MachoXV For experts, LLMs are often poor. But the topic is learning. You are simply incorrect at this level. LLMs mostly correct at intermediate level. They CAN provide sources; a superset of srch engs. Your disclaimers here imply crucial usage advice, but are not wholly true.

@dubya_brian @MachoXV A book was written by a person and they usually have actual references in them. Now compare that to an LLM, of which they are literally trained to be a Bullshitting Engine, why the heck would you trust its output? It'll hallucinate regularly and just be wrong most of the time.

If I was creating a "new" programming language e.g. @odinlang & @ziglang: I'd use my lang's foundation money to hire some stone cold chads and all they'd do is translate 1,000s of C/C++ repos into my lang so that LLMs can exponentially increase accuracy with the end result being a better user experience to build and debug accuracy in this new world of LLM assistance which is not going away and will only get more adoption over time. Example: I've been testing/building stuff in D Lang because I was curious to find a systems/high performance lang with 1) no header files + no CMake, 2) not @rustlang (I don't like the syntax) and 3) high LLM accuracy -- and I was blown away by how accurate LLMs are with D; very very close to C/C++ accuracy (and both C/C++ are near the top of accuracy leaderboards). The reason for D's accuracy is purely because D's longevity has produced so many repos that its an understood language. People always talk about "XYZ language doesn't have good tooling" but most fail to realise that LLMs are now the most powerful form of tooling a language can support. (I've used the word "tooling" liberally here but hopefully you understand the point). Personally, I'd prefer to build in Odin or Zig (I prefer both syntax over D) but the LLM accuracy is way off ATM hence my "hire some Chads" argument above. It's a brave new LLM assisted world and the easier it is to build/debug in your language the faster you can grow your network effect and make the language a top tier experience. cc: @TheGingerBill @croloris @mitchellh @hydrozoagames

Life Update (explicit content) To my friends and fans from the Melee community, I first off want to thank everyone for the tremendous amount of support that I’ve received recently. I’ve truly been grateful for everyone who has tuned into my content, sent me a positive message, or supported my coaching endeavors. Some of you may have noticed that some small, regional communities have begun allowing me back to their events, such as S Factor and Xanadu. I want to thank those local TOs for allowing me the chance to compete and contribute to the community again. Especially with me beginning to attend in-person events recently, I wanted to take the time to address some rumors that have been floating around. On August 20th, it is true that I attempted to commit suicide by jumping in front of a train. I am incredibly fortunate to have survived the impact. However, my right leg was amputated below the knee, and I now wear a prosthetic as a result. I am sorry for the extreme nature of what I just described. It happened because I live with the pain of being separated from my community of the past 20 years. However, let me be clear in saying that this event was incredibly unwarranted and is not the fault of any TO or the community at large. This was clearly a very rash decision, fueled by factors such as social isolation and depression. I want to assure everyone that I assume full culpability, and that my life has been moving in an incredibly positive direction since. After the incident, I started to make a concerted effort to improve my current situation. I have been working with several mental health professionals, attending counseling, and overall making my psychiatric health a top priority in addition to rehabilitating myself physically. While it may sound cliche, I truly do feel like I have a new lease on life. For the first time in years, I can see my situation clearly. My actions over the last couple of years were extreme, completely emotionally fueled, and very irrational. Moving forward, my main objective is to focus on recovering and improving myself both physically and mentally. I would like to set a positive example for the people around me. I’m incredibly grateful for everyone’s positive reception to my content creation and gradual return to competition, and I hope that that momentum continues. I hope that everyone continues to support my streams and coaching sessions, and that I can continue with local TOs to make a return to in-person events—even if only as a spectator for the time being. Thank you for your continued support. I hope to see all of you again someday. -Hax$

Honestly man …. This cycle there is only maybe one or two memecoins that been true culture coins. Like $mog for sure is only one I think … Wif was for a bit but it’s dead with its main shiller…but otherwise 2021 cycle memes and communities were so elite Only 3-4 memecoins devs existed. No snipers or bundles. You had to just go buy supply old fashioned way. There was no supply allocation. You buy a bag in market and shill. It really was true memecoin world. Now everything is too methodical. Nothing has true staying power. EVEYTHING sniper … over saturation
