NPNA will continue our demands for true accountability and oversight of DHS, and not giving one more taxpayer dollar to ICE and CBP.

The fatal shooting of multiple U.S. citizens and escalating violence impacting communities nationwide, demand not only transparency, but a commitment to remove ICE & CBP from our streets, and now, airports.

Today, the Senate confirmed Markwayne Mullin as Homeland Security Secretary. This confirmation signals a continuation of chaos and further eroding public trust.

I introduced the Melt ICE Act to end immigrant detention and monitoring and return the money to impacted communities. Too many people have lost their lives at the hands of ICE. Enough is enough. We cannot continue to fund human suffering. It’s time to start melting ICE.

In the #GideonvWainwright case, SCOTUS ruled 63 yrs ago: “lawyers in criminal courts are necessities, not luxuries.” Among those excluded were those facing deportation. In the age of mass deportations, immigrants face the full power of the federal government—without a lawyer.

Not ruling out politicizing federal dollars for cities that refuse to uphold the Administration's mass deportation agenda, no commitment on halting ICE's home break ins or arrest quotas. Let's be clear, Mullin would be just as disastrous as Noem for DHS.

For these reasons, NPNA has no confidence in the Senator’s ability or willingness to ensure fairness or transparency in DHS—to address issues like growing naturalization barriers, violations of due process, the rising detention death toll, and other Constitutional threats.

In addition to his limited experience managing complex agencies, and known for his quick to react demeanor, Senator Mullin is in lock-step with the Trump administration’s agenda of mass detention and deportation.

Though more work is still needed to ensure the rule is defeated, this decision protects a critical safeguard in our immigration system. Access to representation is essential to ensuring everyone has a real chance to defend their rights in court.

We honor the lives of those who died under Noem’s watch. The over 40 immigrants in their charge and U.S. citizens Keith Porter Jr. Renee Good, Alex Pretti, Rubén Ray Martinez, and Dr. Linda Davis. The firing of Noem won’t bring them back- but it’s a step toward accountability.

Horrified by the death of our Massachusetts neighbor Emmanuel Damas in ICE custody. He was denied medical care for months. I’m sending his family my deepest condolences. A family who has been robbed of their brother & son. Emmanuel is at least the tenth person to die in ICE custody this year. He pleaded for access to necessary medical care for his toothache, a basic human right, and was denied. This rogue agency is killing our neighbors—behind the walls of detention centers & in broad daylight. ICE cannot be reformed, it must be abolished. And there must be accountability for the killing of Emmanuel—it’s what his loved ones & community deserve. I won’t stop pushing for answers & accountability.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced the termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Yemen. The termination will take effect on May 4, 2026. However, if you are from Yemen and currently have TPS, your status remains valid until that date.
