Out of an abundance of caution, Fort McHenry National Monument is temporarily closed as local fire officials investigate a breached pipe located on site. The area has been secured, and all staff and visitors are safe inside the visitor center.

All visitors and staff were safely moved outside the area. Police are on scene, and Department of War personnel are en route to assess and remove the item. There are no reported injuries. Updates will be shared on the park’s website and official social media

Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine is temporarily closed after historic ordnance was discovered in the park. Because the site served as a military installation for more than a century, these finds are not uncommon. The park is following standard procedure.

Jimmy Carter National Historical Park mourns the passing of James Earl Carter, Jr., 39th President of the United States and devoted supporter of the park that bears his name. His death follows the passing of his beloved wife of 77 years, Rosalynn Carter, in November 2023.
