More grant goodness help from, @DianeHLeonard. You need to have a great little sound bite that's unique and customized to a grantmaker. No stock language. How will you make your story connect to that specific grantmaker?

What got your grant butterflies going when you researched a particular funder? That's typically the reason you're a good fit. Lean into that when reaching out to a new funder. Can you say it in 30 seconds or less? Perfect, says @DianeHLeonard.

Super smart tip, @DianeHLeonard! Instead of asking your board/staff/volunteers if they know someone at a grantmaking organization, give them a list of the people on the grantmaker's board/staff and ask if they know/recognize names. Are they willing to make a warm introduction?

When doing grant research, says @DianeHLeonard, first look at the grantmakers' capacity (someone who will answer email/calls) and, super important, preference for communication. Best first step to know what to do next!

Love this from @TammyZonker. 'You can be the source of bright light in a donor's life and help them find those pockets of joy.' A wonderful reminder of why sharing stories of the impact of their gift matters more than you know.

5 minutes before your time with your donor is over, alert them that you know they only have five more minutes with you, says @TammyZonker. Donors appreciate that you value their time and can make the decision to wrap things up or keep going.

Can you text a major donor to ask for a visit? Sure can, says @TammyZonker. But don't ask for money via text. Bad form. Really bad form.
