Driving Maritime Growth at Future Kerala Business Conclave 2026
The Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) actively participated in the Future Kerala Business Conclave 2026 held on 10 May 2026 in Kozhikode, Kerala, engaging with policymakers, industry leaders, and MSMEs on advancing India’s maritime sector.
Shri Shyam Jagannathan, IAS, Director General of Shipping, delivered the Keynote Address as Chief Guest, highlighting the maritime sector’s pivotal role in India’s economy—facilitating nearly 95% of trade by volume and 70% by value. He emphasised the need for resilient, adaptable shipping systems in light of evolving geopolitical challenges, including the ongoing Middle East crisis, and underscored priorities such as green shipping, decarbonisation, and strengthening India’s maritime ecosystem.
Further strengthening the maritime focus, Shri Pradeep Sudhakaran, Joint Director General (Technical), addressed Session 1: Potential of Blue Economy, presenting India’s shipbuilding vision and policy roadmap. His address highlighted the scale of global opportunities, the need to reduce forex outflow from shipping services, and the Government’s push under key schemes such as SBFAS and SBDS to enhance domestic shipbuilding capacity and global competitiveness.
Key discussions also spotlighted Vizhinjam Port as a strategic transshipment hub, development of shipbuilding clusters, and the importance of skilling and seafarer welfare.
The conclave served as a vital platform to align regional strengths with national maritime priorities, reinforcing India’s vision to emerge as a globally competitive and sustainable maritime nation.
