This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the strength, dedication and compassion of mums everywhere, but especially those in our #RFS family. Across the state, thousands of mothers, grandmothers, mothers-in-law, stepmothers and aunties give their time to help protect their communities.

As we move into winter, fire agencies see an increase in house fires as residents use their fireplaces and heaters to stay warm. With temperatures dropping and possible snow forecast across parts of the state in the coming days, it’s important you know how to stay safe.

Firefighters from the #RFS and FRNSW remain on scene at a multi-vehicle accident near Bowman Rd, Londonderry. The incident involved a truck carrying a large quantity of LPG, which ignited & spread to nearby grass. Thankfully both the truck and grass fire have been extinguished.

The #RFS today honoured more than 30 volunteers, staff & teams who have gone above and beyond in their duty. Held on the fourth of May each year, the St Florian’s Day award ceremony coincides with International Firefighters’ Day. Congratulations to all of this year's recipients.

Firefighters are taking advantage of favourable conditions to carry out the Burralow Creek HR in Hawkesbury. Smoke is forecast to settle in low lying areas of Western Sydney overnight, trapped under an inversion. Showers tomorrow are expected to assist clearing this smoke. #RFS

A fire burning on the western edge of Uralla is moving in a westerly direction and impacting homes in areas surrounding the Burial Ground Gully. If you are in the area of Leece Rd, Quartz Gully Rd or Wilkens St, you are at risk. Seek shelter now or as the fire approaches.

A bush fire is burning in close proximity to homes on the western edge of the Uralla township. If you are in the area of Wilkens St, Ivon Ct or Quartz Gully Rd, you are at risk. Leave now towards the Uralla CBD if the path is clear.

Crews are working to contain a bush fire burning on the western edge of the Uralla township. The fire is burning in a west to north westerly direction towards Wilkens St. Residents in the vicinity should monitor conditions and know what they will do if the situation changes.

The Powerline Trail HR continues, with crews working in the Mt Colah area. Smoke will be visible to motorists travelling on the M1. Smoke is affecting the local area & Parramatta. Overnight, it is expected to drift towards the city & the Northern Beaches before lifting tomorrow.

With favourable weather conditions forecast over the coming days, firefighters will continue hazard reductions. Today, crews are carrying out the Powerline Trail hazard reduction burn in the Hornsby area, with smoke currently visible from the M1 Motorway. rfs.nsw.gov.au/hr

On ANZAC Day, we take a moment to remember the courage and sacrifice of all those who have served. For one RFS brigade, the day holds a particularly special meaning, as the name of their brigade, traces its origins back to an WW2 Victoria Cross recipient.

As Youth Week 2026 draws to a close, we want to extend a final thank you to all of our young members. Whether you’re a firefighter, a communications operator, or working in another support role, we’re incredibly grateful for the energy and enthusiasm you bring every day.

As we continue highlighting our members, Matt Louden’s story demonstrates the positive impact young people can have within their communities and on those around them. At just 12 years old, Matt joined the Lake Macquarie Cadet Brigade after meeting firefighters at a local event.
