Can you spot any future firefighters in the making? Recently, the Oakville Brigade were invited to visit two local preschools. The kids had an absolute blast exploring the fire truck, having a turn on the hoses and learning some important fire safety tips.

Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales, and Mr Dennis Wilson visited the #RFS Training Academy in Dubbo today. Hosted by Acting Commissioner Kelly Quandt AFSM, they met with our Learning and Development team and aviation course students.

The 2026 Rotary Emergency Services Community Awards finalists were announced today at NSW Parliament House by Minister for Emergency Services Jihad Dib. Congrats and best of luck to our four #RFS finalists: Leigh Walsh, Malcolm Alexander, John Sullivan OAM and William Lee.

Following a request from NSW Police to support an investigation in far north-west NSW, an #RFS fire investigator and an FRNSW canine and handler were deployed. Due to the remote location and the time-sensitive nature of the investigation, the team travelled on an RFS aircraft.

Earlier today, the #RFS 737 Large Air Tanker ‘Marie Bashir’ departed RAAF Richmond, beginning its journey to the United States. After crossing the Pacific, she will arrive in California and over the coming months provide support to West Coast fire agencies and communities.

A new national warning system, AusAlert, will be tested in the Liverpool area tomorrow afternoon. The test will take place at 4pm in the vicinity of Heathcote Rd and Newbridge Rd. If you are near the test area, your device may receive a test alert. ausalert.gov.au

It was a lucky escape early this morning for a family who woke to find a fire burning in their garage. Firefighters from the #RFS & FRNSW arrived quickly, with crews from Galston & Arcadia extinguishing the fire, which is believed to have started in an electric vehicle charger.

Yesterday, AFAC released the Winter Bushfire Seasonal Outlook. NSW has experienced a warmer and drier autumn than usual. Forecasts suggest winter is likely to be drier than average, particularly later in the season, with warmer daytime temperatures expected across much of NSW.

Last week, a new batch of Air Attack Supervisors learnt the ropes in Dubbo. The airspace over a fireground is a busy place, with waterbombing aircraft working to support ground crews and slow the fire. Air attack supervisors play a crucial role in coordinating those aircraft.

#RFS and Fire and Rescue NSW have worked to extinguish a fire burning in a building on Station Street at Menangle (Wollondilly LGA). It took more than 15 fire trucks to bring the fire under control. Local road closures remain in place while emergency services remain on scene.

The West Pittwater Brigade, located within the Northern Beaches, provides vital support to several boat-access-only communities on the western side of Pittwater and is made up of more than 100 members, supported by an additional 80 volunteers within the Community Fire Unit.

Smoke alarms, unlike wine, do not age well over time. Did you know that most smoke alarms have a use-by date? Some modern smoke alarms have a life-span of up to ten years and may not have a battery to change, making it easy to forget how long since they’ve been installed.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the strength, dedication and compassion of mums everywhere, but especially those in our #RFS family. Across the state, thousands of mothers, grandmothers, mothers-in-law, stepmothers and aunties give their time to help protect their communities.
