National Indigenous Peoples Day is a time to celebrate the rich heritage, vibrant cultures and lasting contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. It is also an opportunity to learn from Indigenous voices, experiences and histories and fostering meaningful relationships built on respect. We offer our deep gratitude to our Indigenous colleagues and community members for their leadership in building a more equitable and compassionate future. Pictured: Morning Star by Dene Suline artist Alex Janvier, displayed in the Grand Hall of the Canadian Museum of History. It is a symbol of hope, resilience, and reconciliation. It illustrates the enduring presence and wisdom of Indigenous peoples. The radiating patterns evoke cycles of life, the unity of all peoples, and a vision of mutual respect and harmony. It reminds us that the path forward must be guided by truth, dialogue and shared commitment.

We’re in the home stretch! Last night’s banquet and dance was the perfect end of Business Day 1, a chance to celebrate nurses in a fun and relaxed setting. The final day of convention is underway with resolutions, a pledge to improve our relationship with Indigenous peoples, acknowledging our historical role in past and ongoing harms within the healthcare system. There’s a busy day ahead. Stay tuned for more. #AllInCFNU #CFNU2025

It’s not all business, once in a while there’s dancing, laughing, and time to kick back. Even when off-the-clock nurses are building momentum, advancing solidarity and supporting each other in their nursing community. #AllInCFNU #CFNU2025

This morning, NSNU members (and over 1,000 other nurses) heard from a panel of experts in the field of artificial intelligence, including world renowned applied health futurist, Dr. Zayna Khayat. The session, AI Health: Today & Tomorrow, shed light on this rapidly evolving technology, and reminded delegates of valuable cautionary tales to bear in mind. #AllIn #CFNU2025

Close to 1,200 nurses from across Canada, including 60 members of the NSNU, are in Niagara Falls for the 22nd Biennial Convention themed All In! So far, Nova Scotian attendees have participated in a heathy walk, a dynamic reception, a sunrise ceremony led by an Indigenous Elder & Knowledge Keeper, workshops, NSNU caucus attended by Linda Silas and Secretary-Treasurer of CFNU, Angela Preocanin, and an Indigenous health panel that complemented CFNU’s new report, Beyond Equity: Taking Action to Address Indigenous-Specific Racism in Nursing. Members of the CFNU National Executive Board, including NSNU President Janet Hazelton offered an apology to First Nations, Inuit and Metis Peoples for the racism they have experienced and continue to endure in health care, and our compliance for not intervening. Nova Scotia’s Dawn GooGoo, L’nu Nurse Initiative Lead, and Chair of Indigenous Health Nursing at Dalhousie University took part in the panel. Stay tuned for much more. #AllIn #CFNU2025
