The X is a bit much guys… I think that’s the final nail in the coffin. Thank-you #AusWrites crew for keeping here longer than I otherwise would’ve. I’ll still be on Facebook, Instagram and now Threads under ‘ntaylorwrites’. #WritingCommunity and #AuthorsOfTwitter… Good luck!

It’s 8am. The kids are still asleep. Even the dog is still asleep. I don’t know what is happening but I am all for it!

Monday felt like an entire week. In these instances, Tuesday should just become Friday.

Asking each other Disney trivia questions at work to prepare for a Disney trivia night we're attending this weekend. We take this stuff seriously.

A few months ago I spent an awesome charity ‘Writing Weekend’ at the @qldwriters center. Over that weekend, I finished first drafts of three short stories that now make up half of this collection: Puppies, Pizza, Magic & Murder. Available free at: BookHip.com/KNPMQZC

@HLCarter_Author I stopped in the mid 30s after multiple full requests came back saying the concept wouldn’t sell in today’s market. I tried to write something else, but kept coming back to that story. Now I’m publishing it as an indie. and I honestly love the freedom and control.

Real talk for my #amquerying folks: How many rejections before you shelve a project? I've got a few fulls and other queries out, so I'm not quite ready to shelve this one, but I'm starting to get more and more red on my spreadsheet (I color-code it.) Getting nervous.

@xavi87319 @GoblinWriter @Parvenu62 It’s true, current AI makes for terrible creative writing. My worry isn’t for right now, it’s for a few a years into the future. This technology isn’t going to stop developing and getting better. If we wait until AI is capable of writing a serviceable novel, it’ll be too late.

@GoblinWriter Here's the problem many of my mutuals who are authours have experimented with CHATGPT. They're unimpressed. @Parvenu62 tweeted his experiences with it and his assessment. The takeaway is AI is oblivious because it has no consciousness.

@AlyssaMatesic When writing a viewpoint character’s internal dialogue, is it acceptable to use second person voice? I often do this and I think it’s because my own inner dialogue is in second person (when I burn my toast I’ll think ‘you idiot’ instead of ‘I’m an idiot’).

3. Writing internal thoughts in 3rd person. While most of the MS will be written in 3rd person, the POV character’s inner dialogue should be in italics & written in 1st person. That’s how they would realistically speak to themselves in their head.

As an editor, I closely analyze POV in every story I work on. Many are written in close 3rd person, but I often see writers struggle with this perspective as the story unfolds. These are the 5 most common mistakes I see in close 3rd person POV, & how to fix them (a 🧵):

@O_Dickerson3 1. Yes (short fiction in magazines, self-published for novel length fiction) 2. I’m fairly active on the self-pub and writing subreddits on Reddit 3. Time. Family and day-job are the biggest priority. Maybe I’ll be able to do more writer support when the kids move out of home 😅

#writingcommunity 1-are you a published author? 2- do you help out other writers (any stage)? If so how? 3- if not, why not? Curious minds want to know.

Alas, school holidays are over and it’s time to hang up my ‘writing shoes’ for another term. Now, to dive in to lesson planning, classroom timetables and differentiated assessment 🧑‍💻

@michelle_bourke I’m sure there would be—I think there’s an ‘Australian Speculative Fiction’ group on Facebook. There’s also the #AusWrites and #6amAusWriters on here. Otherwise maybe we just need to form such a group 🥳

@NTWrites @NTWrites is there some kind of online community in Australia of fantasy writers who beta read each other’s work or just chat?
