A flyer is currently circulating offering veterans “free athletic shoes” through the VA. While it may appear official and uses VA branding, this is not a legitimate Department of Veterans Affairs program and may be a scam. Mailers are also being sent promoting a “Veterans Savings Program” that claims to unlock extra VA benefits such as CHAMPVA, TRICARE, dental coverage, or additional payments. These claims are not from the VA and are not legitimate programs. To be clear, the VA does not offer either of these programs or benefits. Please be cautious of any offers requesting personal information or directing you to unofficial websites or phone numbers. A leaky roof and mold tried to slow us down... but our community had other plans! Last fall's heavy rains threw a major curveball at our main HQ. Meet Michelle T., a 50-year old Air Force Veteran who was doing everything she could to stay on top of her bills. When her car suddenly broke down, she lost the only transportation she had to get to work. Her job-and her stability- were at risk. That's when NVHS stepped in. We covered the cost of her vehicle repairs so she could keep working and stay on track. Since receiving assistance, Michelle has successfully transitioned out of temporary housing and is now securely and independently housed.
