The North Walsham & Dilham Canal opened 1826. It's nine miles long, has six locks & had sailing wherries transporting freight. Early in C20 trade declined & wherry Ella passed through the last time in 1934. Now a conservation trust is restoring the canal for recreational use.

👍 One of the great privileges of this job is being invited to see the phenomenal work volunteers do all over North Norfolk. 🛶 Yesterday I got to see that on the North Walsham & Dilham Canal Trust. The restoration work to the waterways and Ebridge lock was quite astounding💚👇

Muddy walk at Ebridge along the North Walsham and Dilham canal. Birds spotted: Heron, robin, blue tit, blackbird, great tit, mistlethrush, mute swan, common buzzard, kestrel and two kingfishers! #birding #Norfolk

Spent yesterday walking along the North Walsham to Dilham canal. The canal trust doing repair to a lock with the aim to have boats once again on canal. To celebrate, I of course, had a pint of Wherry with lunch.
