Recent rainfall has helped improve drought conditions in portions of East Texas, but drought conditions are present in 80% of our region. Extreme to exceptional drought conditions persist across much of the Big Bend and South and Central Texas. #txdrought #nmdrought #codrought

Taking a look at statewide reservoir levels, rainfall in March produced enough runoff to bring levels slightly above levels from one month ago. As has been the case for some time, western and southern reservoirs remain in need of recharge. #txreservoirs

Heavy rainfall is forecast Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday across most of Texas. With primed soils from last weekend’s rainfall, we are expecting action to minor with possible isolate moderate river flooding in North and East TX. Remember to turn around, don't drown! #txwx

Last night’s heavy rainfall, with pockets of over 5 inches in North Texas, triggered near-flood conditions and minor flooding at a couple points along the Sabine and Trinity River basins. We expect additional minor to isolated moderate river flooding from forecast rain. #txwx

Looking at this weekend, expect dry conditions across the area. Rainfall returns next week, and heavier rainfall mid to late week could lead to river rises in portions of Texas. #txwx #nmwx #cowx

The Rio Grande River headwaters in CO saw some much needed snowfall last week. In terms of observed SWE at SNOTEL stations in this plot, we are at the 8th percentile of the 1991-2020 climatology (well below normal) and are slightly lower than the SWE on this date in 2018. #cowx

While abnormally dry soil conditions exit across much of Texas and parts of New Mexico, there is not much relief in sight in the short-term outlooks.
