I studied in Rome, volunteered in Mexico, and lived in El Salvador and Central America for five years. I’ve been sent all over. But here’s the difference: every other place was temporary. I really like the fact that I’m being called now to have New York as my home.

Today we celebrate the Feast of St. Joseph, spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. A man of faith, humility, and quiet strength. In 1870, Pope Pius IX declared him Patron of the Universal Church, recognizing his role as protector of the Holy Family and guardian of the entire Church.

Today the Church honors Cyril of Jerusalem. Born around 315 he became Bishop of Jerusalem during a time of great turmoil. His most enduring legacy is his Catechetical Lectures given to those preparing for Baptism, offering a glimpse into the life and beliefs of the early Church.

For many years, I had hoped to visit Ireland. Last year, that long-held dream was finally realized, and I found it deeply moving. While I was there, I heard this story that captures something profoundly true about the faith of the Irish people.

During today's homily I reflected that life is a combination of good things and bad, of pain and happiness and also of the Crucifixion and the Resurrection. Our lives are a combination of everything.

Today as we continue this journey through Lent let our prayer, almsgiving, and fasting help us to continue to choose daily God. To stand under God's flag and God's banner.

There is something truly special about the people of the Archdiocese of New York. From the moment I arrived, I was met with genuine welcome, warmth, and sincerity and a deep, evident love for the faith that shines through in our parishes and communities.

In today’s homily, I reflected on a simple but important truth: no matter how much we try to fill our lives with food, drink, or material things, none of it can truly satisfy the deepest longing of the heart. Only our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, can satisfy our souls.

Today on the 3rd Sunday of Lent, the Gospel invites us to reflect on Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman at the well and speaks to her about the gift of grace and the thirst of the human heart can only be satisfied by God. Painting by James Tissot, Brooklyn Museum

I invite you to take some time today to make a game plan for how you are going to spend your Lent. Ask yourself what you’re going to do in terms of prayer, fasting, and charity. What is your plan to get God back in the center of your life?

Today we remember St Casimir. Born a Polish-Lithuanian prince in 1458, St Casimir chose a life of prayer, humility, & care for the poor over the privileges of royalty. Though he died at just 25, his witness of chastity, generosity, & deep devotion to Christ continues to inspire.

After our Holy Father’s Angelus address, I join him and make my own his prayer for peace, diplomacy, and dialogue in the Middle East. May violence end, may innocent lives be protected, and may leaders choose the path of peace over division.
