Heartbroken to hear about the passing of Staff Sgt Mohamed Mahudhy under such tragic circumstances. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and colleagues. Maldivians have been raising their concerns since news emerged about the fatal cave diving expedition. Whilst there is an ongoing investigation, the death of a member of the MNDF rescue team is hitting our community hard and will rightly lead to more questions. This should be a wakeup call to the authorities to examine the safety standards associated with our growing tourism sector. Maldives has historically had a strong reputation for safety and it really is in everyone’s interests that this continues. I will be taking up this matter in parliament.
