@Thought_Critica We don’t let citizens drive around armed tanks, fly fighter jets, or own nuclear bombs, for obvious reasons. In 1790 guns were a lot closer to the ceiling of military technology.

@grunscga @Rebels_Raiders Think of Star Wars where everything is a laser rifle and kinetics are basically banned so the people that use them have an unfair advantage because no one uses them so no one protects against it, just protects against the laser rifles

Is this the kind of decaying society where the engineers no longer know why they do things, but just follow the "old rituals"? Or are they at an awkward stage of tech development where they don't have the material science to protect against both lasers and kinetics in a man-portable package? I ask because if you look at recent human history, from roughly 1980 to 2000-ish, soft body armor (mostly Kevlar) was state-of-the-art for stopping bullets. But even though no major wars had been fought with swords or bows for 300+ years, there was still a lot of discussion and training surrounding the fact that knives and arrows went through it like paper. Once we developed lightweight hard armor plates (that stop everything equally), soft body armor pretty much disappeared. Which is why I find it a little immersion-breaking that an advanced enemy would somehow forget that kinetics exist in ground combat. It's certainly not impossible (if you look at military procurement, there are plenty of non-sensical decisions), but seems like it either needs direct explanation or needs to be treated as a big mystery to be answered later. Otherwise, it's somewhat on par with aliens landing with rocket engines, but being shocked at the concept of cooking food with fire. It's hard to get to one without the other.

Never forget that even in Star Trek lore, a firearm invented 346 years prior makes absolute short work of the Federation's & the galaxy’s ultimate enemy. It makes everyone else look completely incompetent for never thinking to just shoot the borg with kinetic weapons earlier.

@grunscga @Rebels_Raiders Weapons tech advanced to where lasers are the main base of combat and kinetics are largely forgotten aside from space ships to stop space debris n stuff but ground combat is all laser based technology

@Namesarehard311 @Rebels_Raiders That’s kind of a tough sell, considering that literally everything in space is a hypervelocity kinetic round. Do you have an explanation for how the aliens survive space travel without understanding this? Some kind of cultural thing?

One of my ideal games is literally just combined arms tactical goonlarp XCOM but with anime women It straight up could just be a mod at that point. Another is just 8-player co-op Shipbreaker. Yes, I want to come home from work to play work.

All I'm saying is that if you took a bunch of people and asked them to describe their ideal game - more likely than not, their idea is incredibly inspired by a game that already exists, or there's already a game exactly like it. There's only so many games you could make until they all become off-shoots of each other's overall style. At that point, just play whichever one looks cool to you, who cares.
Best Indie Games@clemmygames

This indie developer is making a sick looking FPS where you play as a kitsune and can use both firearms and your beast powers. Ir's called FERRA, any interest?
