Have you ever laughed and cried at the same time? That’s me today! I was so thrilled and honored and humbled to learn that my novel, The Next Target, won first place in the political intrigue division of this national contest. It is strictly for self published authors (which I have been ever since I left my traditional publisher over ten years ago). I entered this contest once before several years ago, but didn’t even receive honorable mention. The competition is very stiff because there are so many self published authors these days. I cannot thank everyone enough who helped me in the process of writing this book. There were so many experts in various fields who shared their expertise. Most of all, I thank the Lord. Any talent I have came from Him. #politicalIntrigue #AwardWinning #GoodReads #BestBook

Recently I spoke with a woman from Poland who had read my Civil War books. She said she wished all Polish schools made my books mandatory reading because she had been taught such a wrong version. After years of research, I tried extremely hard to write a balanced and accurate history. That is why 2 novels are from the Union perspective and 2 from the Confederate In the years since these were published, I’ve received emails from all over the nation from educators and Civil War experts saying that I accomplished that accuracy. If you haven’t read them, I hope you will. According to reviews and awards received, they are also very entertaining. #CivilWar #AmericanHistory #HistoricalFiction

I listened to Erika Kirk’s full speech at the memorial, and I want to share a few thoughts that came to me while live streaming the event. This is not political. First, I should say that I grew up as a Muslim in a Muslim country. I don’t know enough about Christianity to say if what I witnessed is rooted in faith or culture. But what struck me most was how, even though death is heavy and this was by nature a sad occasion, the entire event carried a celebratory spirit that honored life. That contrast hit me deeply. In Islam, even though we believe that good people go to heaven, the relationship with God is taught through fear. Funerals are overwhelmingly sad, often filled with warnings of the terrifying first night in the grave. Growing up hearing that, and then witnessing people celebrate life, speak of God’s love, and remember someone through the impact he had on others; it felt so refreshing, so positive. Second, I was profoundly moved by @MrsErikaKirk’s words. I cannot fathom the strength it takes to stand and deliver such a meaningful speech after losing the love of your life. But even more than that, the grace it takes to forgive the very person who destroyed your world. I cannot imagine myself standing on a stage, sending love to those who cheered your husband’s murder, or inviting others to spread God’s love in response because, as she said, “we do not respond to hate with hate.” That is powerful beyond words. Again, I am ignorant when it comes to Christianity, but if this is what it truly embodies, then I am envious of those who get to experience that feeling.

Like all of you, I am utterly stunned and heartbroken and sick to my soul today. It is unimaginable to write these words. I met Charlie Kirk when he was 18 years old, a young man so eager and determined that I immediately turned to a friend and said, “That kid is going to be the head of the RNC one day.” Charlie became even bigger and more important than that. It was a privilege to watch this principled man stand up for his beliefs and create the single most important conservative political organization in America. But more importantly, Charlie was a good man, a man who believed in right and wrong, who stood by his Biblical values. All of us will miss him, and I can’t imagine the pain of his beautiful young family, and we must all pray for them. And we must pick up the baton where Charlie left it, fighting for the things he believed in so passionately. And we must fight for a better America - an America where good people can speak truth and debate passionately without fear of a bullet. I weep for Charlie’s family, and I weep for my country today. Most of all, I weep for Charlie.

“Do not fear those who can kill the body but cannot kill the soul.” God, help us to be as brave a voice of reason as Charlie Kirk was. 🙏😭 #fearnot #truth
