A “Khal bacha,” or dummy calf, is the stuffed, dead body of a mother cow's offspring (pictured). When the dummy is nearby, it causes her body to continue producing milk.
This photo is from India, where the myth still persists that cows are protected and not exploited/abused/murdered.
In reality, cows are farmed there just like anywhere else, and in states that do ban cow slaughter, male calves are sold off to slaughter in other states and trafficked there, or simply thrown out onto the street to become strays.
