@linmeitalks With increased minimum wage, business killing employment rights and NI rises, machines are much more affordable, and reliable. There is no incentive to hire and if a machine can do the job, then so be it. Government killed employment

More and more shops are installing self check out tills. Where are entry level, students, young people, part time parents and older people supposed to work??? What is the government proposing regarding the progression of technology and the job losses it is causing?

@PolitlcsUK So people who study or graft, work their way up, should have a limit on earnings because people who have no qualifications/experience are on a minimum wage. Hmmm. Communism

🚨 NEW: Green leader Zack Polanski will call for policies to end the "affordability crisis" tomorrow - The introduction of a 10:1 pay ratio, whereby the highest-paid employee earns no more than ten times the lowest-paid - Free school meals for all primary and secondary pupils - Universal energy bill support for households and stronger rent controls - A customs union with the EU to cut business costs

@DrHWazir Pay is down in real terms for many professions. Optometrists have had a £3 rise in the NHS sight test fee in England over the past DECADE. I was paid £7k per annum in my training year. Because we were still learning. Zero NHS pension. You guys can hold the country to ransom.

I’m a resident doctor and I’ll be going out on strike from April 7th. Wes Streeting and Keir Starmer have removed 1,000 extra NHS specialist training jobs; a decision that means fewer potential consultants and GPs, and potentially longer waits for patients in the future. This not only harms doctors, it harms the public and the NHS as a whole. But this isn’t just about those 1,000 posts. It’s also about the bigger picture and what it symbolises. Doctors’ pay has been cut in real terms for over a decade, and resident doctors are still earning 21% less in real terms than a doctor in 2008. There are now far more doctors than speciality training posts, so thousands of doctors can’t progress in their careers to become specialists even though the NHS desperately needs more of them. Last year around 40,000 doctors applied for about 10,000 specialist training posts. Instead of expanding speciality training posts to tackle waiting lists, the number of potential future specialists is being reduced by this Labour Government. At the same time, during negotiations, the Government reduced the investment that had been discussed and spread it over three years instead. So we’re in a situation where pay is still down in real terms, training bottlenecks are rife across the NHS, and the number of potential future specialists is being reduced. That’s why I’m going out on strike with @BMAResidents.

@wesstreeting In the mean time, optometrists in England have put up with a ridiculous £3 rise in the NHS eye test fee over a 10 years period. Why has that not increased with inflation? Optometrists don't get NHS pensions either

Thanks to this Government resident doctors have already received a 28.9% average pay rise. The deal on offer goes further on pay, and would create more training places - including 1,000 now. The BMA can’t even offer an alternative proposal. I’d urge everyone to read this👇🏻

@MichaelRosenYes UK ministers put little emphasis on healthcare. They wait for something to happen and then try and fix it. Preventative healthcare doesn't seem to exist. And the lack of comprehension is illustrated by the poor funding of NHS dentistry, optometry and lack of doctors and placement

Now that we have the vaccines for bacterial meningitis, ideally, it should be possible for everyone to avoid getting meningitis. I hope the authorities work out very soon how a group of young people were not covered by the vaccines.

@premnsikka A Scottish model for NHS eye care would also be welcomed in England, otherwise only the large corporates can survive

Young adults face challenges, unemployment, low wages, debts. Govt can help, adopt Scottish policies No university tuition fees. No prescription charges (also in Wales) Free bus travel for the under-22s. Treating young adults in England as second class is a political choice.
