On Thursday, April 30, I’ll be hosting a #DefyAI writing workshop in Longmont, Colorado. I am working with Denver artist Javier Robles. Attendees will pick one of Javi’s work that they like, and have an hour to write a story based on it. One rule: you can’t use any “AI”.

@AtGonzalez01 I thought it was weird that both The Departed and The Sopranos use the live version of Comfortably Numb, but then I realized that Chris and Tony are actually listening to the Departed soundtrack.

@NantucketLit I meant to say "they're just quotes" but honestly... "they just quotes" sounds like it could be dialogue from either show.

Oz and The Sopranos were two incredibly formative adult dramas for me as a teenager. But it annoys me that you can't really talk about either show on boards or SubReddits! All everyone ever does is quote the goddamn shows! They just quotes!

@OponokMWL Roger Ebert’s mic-drop on the first RE movie: “No wonder the steel doors make those slamming noises. In their imagination, they’re practicing. Creative visualization, it’s called. I became inspired, and visualized the theater doors slamming behind me.”

That's actually a more nuanced example. Sometimes, a character will be holding an object and after time passes and several cuts, they're not holding it anymore, resulting in someone demanding to know where it went. Imagine if you will THEY PUT IT AWAY. IMAGINE THEY PUT IT AWAY.

A concerning aspect of animating for YouTube is discovering the lack of object permanence many viewers possess. When we open with the beer can opening and dropping on the ground, too many questions like, "WHY DID SHE PEE?" when we see the yellowish liquid on the ground. 1/2

@Scotterybarn I so wish I could find this talk that Spielberg and John Williams did. I think it was on TCM or AMC. Spielberg talked about meeting Bernard Hermann during post on Taxi Driver.

The Rocket Power one (or one of them) was insane. It had a whole timeline of humanity including Ancient Egypt and the September 11th attacks. What the hell does any of that have to do with Rocket Power.

Fandom Wikis are so funny because either they are the most detailed, well-documented things ever and are a godsend for writing reference... or they are a barren wasteland and you only get two descriptions and maybe a picture of a character.

@treebahark I think companies see that the consumer demand isn’t there. Whatever the “use cases” might be, the market was much smaller than advertised.

@Scorpio_NiVi Yes and no. As a songwriter, I am still free to make music without A.I. (I just probably won't be able to make money doing it for much longer...)

A children’s story I published last year is now beautifully illustrated by @OponokMWL! shortkidstories.com/story/you-get-… You Get a Line, I’ll Get a Pole by Nicholas Bernhard I’m going to let you in on something: this isn’t the last we’ve seen of this man and his dinosaur buddy.
