@Naperdebunker BTW - thank you for a thoughtful and respectful dialog. New to social media, and this was the most positive exchange I’ve seen!

False. Risk of myocarditis is greater from covid infection than from vaccination. Check my tweets, I’m sure this came up in the last few weeks and I posted from a source, don’t quote me but it might’ve been NEJM.

@Naperdebunker Also solid data that young men under 20 have a statistically greater risk from vax than benefit Acknowledging these things and sharing the facts takes the wind out of conspiracy and distrust. Not hitting it head on fuels distrust.

@Naperdebunker As best I know, J&J has not begun their trials yet - which is part of why I would like to see this addressed more openly. Maybe I have wrong info, but in the absence of an alternative - would really like to see CDC and NIH step up here.

@NapervilleIn I haven’t seen anything indicating a myocarditis issue with the JNJ vaccines, just Pfizer and Moderna. So they could arguably steer the younger men to JNJ if there’s a concern. The JNJ clotting issue IIRC was mainly women under 50.

@Naperdebunker In my view, myocarditis and natural immunity are two topics that seem to have validity. Not saying either are valid - saying I would like to see a more open and thoughtful communication plan on these topics. They are not being messaged well, or candidly, and I think it is a miss

@NapervilleIn My point is the public policy of the mandate is the right move at this point, and I’m citing public opinion because there were a lot more people wondering why the administration wasn’t doing more. The adm wasn’t going to sit back and keep watching people needlessly die.

@Naperdebunker Public policy can’t be dictated by public opinion. If it were LQBTQ rights would not exist, Obama Care would not have passed, and a right to chose would not have passed until the late 90’s. A republic, flawed as it is, ensures the much needed voice of the minority.

@NapervilleIn Some that have had covid have been vaccinated. So that leaves a lot of never had covid and just not getting vaxxed people. Public opinion is in favor of the “mandate”.

@Naperdebunker On the other hand, 41M recovered. 209M vaxed. Cant find a reliable stat on recovered and vaxed. Population >18 is 260M, implying 80-96% immunity in the targeted population. We just opened the 80m you reference. What about this adoption rate requires shame, anger, and mandate?

@NapervilleIn Not disagreeing with you about communication, but what I debunked was false information. That said, they’ve been trying to pull people along for months. 80 million eligible but unvaccinated people is a lot. 41 million have had covid. Roughly 650k have died.1/

@Naperdebunker We have to let go of this fear that “vaccinations have to be perfect” or no one will take them. Of course there are side effects. Denying them only feeds the conspiracy minded and reluctant. Admit the risks. Allow for research and debate (for REAL issues).

@Naperdebunker Not false. Emerging data that has validity & should be researched & discussed openly. This isn’t ‘covid made my cousin impotent’. Both these topics have solid data & medical experts saying they are real. The facts are facts. It’s the implications we don’t understand.

@Naperdebunker I accept your opinion/knowledge on some topics. On this, I’ll take my own counsel and that of constitutional scholars. Biden got baited into this move. It’s a bad end game & there’s a better way. My 2. Roe is foundational.

@Naperdebunker I believe you are more informed than I on the credibility of these sources. Not trying to debate the merits of a particular source. The point is some thoughts on how our PH officials can improve effectiveness of communication to “bring people along”. Don’t need debunking ✌️

@Naperdebunker We want the same outcomes. Just a different vision on how to get there. Re SCOTUS, with respect, your interpretation of Jacobson is not fully informed. Jacobson predated Roe. If you value our rights to chose, this is a dangerous path.

@NapervilleIn The Supreme Court has ruled on vax mandates previously, and considering you can just get tested instead it doesn’t seem to be an full mandate.

@Naperdebunker Well, the data from the NIH, the CDC, Israel. Heck, even Gupta acknowledged it on CNN in his interview with Dr Fauci. Natural immunity is real. Not saying it’s a good strategy. Im saying that to build confidence in public health, not acknowledging it is a flawed comm strategy.

From what I’ve read, if you get covid and then get vaxxed your immunity likely will not wane. Some unvaxxed people have gotten covid more than once. The natural immunity strategy also requires the risk of severe disease or long Covid.
Concerned in Naperville@NapervilleIn

@Naperdebunker There is solid data that tells us that post recovery immunity is as strong or stronger than vax immunity. He keeps sidestepping it.

@Naperdebunker Yes. We can take that approach & seem to be doing so. Look at vax rates since the announcement. Lawyers will get rich arguing it, it won’t get implemented, distrust will continue to grow. And we’ll move backwards on solving the actual public health issue. Real world vs theory.

@NapervilleIn Well they can either get vaxxed, lose their jobs or get tested. To use a Tim Anderson quote out of context “ride with us or get run over.”

@Naperdebunker In the end, I believe we are slowing progress, creating division, and unfortunately handing a roadmap to some not so good people that will be used for ‘how to use public interest’ as a weapon to take away our right to chose what happens to our bodies.

@Naperdebunker I believe we need more civility, transparency, and hearts & minds efforts. The vitriol, shame, etc are only harming us. Look at the dive in vax rates after the announcement of mandates.
