In the 8th-century Syriac dialogue between a Muslim emir and a monk of the monastery of Bet Ḥale, the emir asks the monk whether he believes that Muslims (i.e., the sons of Hagar) will enter heaven. The monk's answer is rather striking, I think. (Trans. David Taylor)

The typical Muslim vs. Christian debate is far too polarized and simplistic, with narrow-minded Neo-Salafis repping the Muslim side and presenting the sloppiest theology in Islam. While there are always major theological differences that can and should be debated, there are historically popular Shi'i and Sufi Neoplatonic theologies of Islam that would make better dialogue or debate partners with Christians. If I were to debate or dialogue with a Christian, I would draw on the philosophical, mystical, and esoteric traditions of Islam that would give the Christian side a surprise but also point to some unexpected commonalities. @unplugfitX @IslamAnswered @jaydyer @CapturingChrist @RFupdates
