🇯🇵🇳🇬 𝙐𝙋𝘿𝘼𝙏𝙀: The National Sports Commission welcomed another significant boost to Nigerian sports as the Badminton Association of Japan donated training equipment to the Badminton Federation of Nigeria under Japan's Sport for Tomorrow initiative. The presentation, held at the Package B Indoor Sports Hall of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, brought together the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, @ShehuDikko , Ambassador of Japan to Nigeria H.E. Suzuki Hideo, NSC Director General Hon. @BukolaOlopadee , Nigeria Olympic Committee President Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel, Badminton Federation of Nigeria President Francis Orbih, National Institute for Sports Director General Comrade Philip Shaibu, and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development Hon. Adeboye Adeyinka Anthony. The donated items, including 55 badminton rackets, 44 shuttlecocks, six racket covers and three racket bags, will support the development of both elite and grassroots badminton across the country. The initiative followed collaboration between the Badminton Federation of Nigeria and the Badminton Association of Japan through their representatives on the Badminton World Federation Council, with the Japanese Government supporting the transportation of the equipment. Speaking at the ceremony, NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko commended the Badminton Federation of Nigeria for attracting strategic international partnerships that will improve training standards and strengthen the development pathway for Nigerian athletes. 🏐 𝙐𝙋𝘿𝘼𝙏𝙀: Nigeria has added another major continental event to it's growing international sports calendar after securing the hosting rights for the 2027 Africa Beach Games Championship. The hosting rights were announced by the President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), Mustapha Berraf, during his visit to the National Sports Commission Headquarters in Abuja. The championship will be staged in Lagos and is another significant step in the National Sports Commission's strategy of using major international competitions to grow Nigeria's sports economy, strengthen sports tourism, create opportunities for athletes and businesses, and position the country as one of Africa's leading destinations for global sporting events. The announcement follows Nigeria's recent confirmation as host of the 2027 African School Games in Abuja, with discussions also progressing on the possibility of bringing Africa's Olympic qualification events to Nigeria ahead of the 2030 Olympic Games. . #NSC #NationalSportsCommission #RHINSE

Speaking during a stakeholders' engagement, NSC Chairman @ShehuDikko explained that government intervention is in line to best international benchmarks and is designed to create the right environment for the Nigeria Premier Football League to attract greater investment, improve players welfare, club professionalism and strengthen the overall football ecosystem. The awards were presented by ANOCA President, Mustafa Berraf, at the National Sports Commission Headquarters, Abuja, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. 🇳🇬 UPDATE: Nigeria has taken another major step towards hosting one of Africa's biggest youth sporting events following the official signing of the Games Hosting Agreement between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) for the 2027 African School Games in Abuja. The agreement was signed by the leadership of the National Sports Commission, led by Chairman @ShehuDikko and Director General Hon. @BukolaOlopadee , alongside ANOCA President Mustapha Berraf, in the presence of Nigeria Olympic Committee President Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel, OON, ANOCA First Vice President João Da Costa, ANOCA Secretary General Ahmed Hashim, Chairman of the Abuja 2027 Local Organising Committee Lekan Abari, Secretary General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee Tunde Popoola, Director General of the National Institute for Sports Comrade Philip Shaibu, and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development Anthony Adeboye, among other dignitaries. The agreement formally confirms Abuja as the host city for the second edition of the African School Games schedule to hold in From 2nd to 11th August 2027 and marks another significant milestone in the National Sports Commission's commitment to grassroots sports development under the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria's Sports Economy (RHINSE). Speaking during the ceremony, Shehu Dikko described the Games as a defining opportunity for Nigeria to showcase it's capacity to host world class sporting events while creating a platform for the discovery and development of the next generation of African sporting talents, advancement of sports economy, infrastructure development and indeed Nigeria soft power through sports. Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade noted that hosting the Games aligns with the Commission's vision of strengthening school sports and expanding opportunities for young athletes across the continent. The event also featured special recognition from ANOCA, with Mallam Shehu Dikko receiving an Honorary Award of Excellence for his contributions to sports development and the Olympic movement in Africa, while Hon. Bukola Olopade was presented with a Plaque of Appreciation in recognition of his outstanding administrative leadership in sports.
