This part vexed me the most: "Yates noted that debuts today tend to cost around £3M whereas that number was only £1.5M a few years ago." There are so many incredible filmmakers here, that could make 3 quality films (or more) for £3m. Alice is totally right.

Don’t be timid to make short films. You don’t have to show them to anyone if they’re not perfect. Grow slowly. Copy others. Learn how you speak the language of film. It’s ok if you don’t know what you’re doing yet, nobody does.
