I use the NYRA Bets app often to just check on what races are happening and to watch the streams. NC blocks the app, BUT I can click the hyperlink and have access to all the same functions, including gambling, in browser. So what does blocking the app do?

My layover hotel must be new to us because it had ZERO info on FC View. Started filling out what I knew before I even had my tie off once I got to my room. The people need to know the fridge/microwave/gym/breakfast situation.

LEX layovers are fun, but I really can’t wait to come back when it’s warmer so I can visit Keeneland and the museums as well

@303SnowWolf I know of a person who insisted to the CFII ground school they were teaching that our planes had TCAS because the POH described TIS-B as “utilizing TCAS-like symbology to display traffic”. That stressed me out to hear someone authoritatively say.

Today this CFI said basically “we can rely on ADSB for traffic avoidance because we know it’s required to fly in this airspace”… If he was in the room instead of on Zoom my nonelectric ass woulda gone across the table at him.

The “I wonder what it would take to rip these BluRays” into “Okay so what exactly do I need for a Plex NAS to watch from my AppleTV?” rabbit hole has been an interesting bit of reading for a Sunday evening

@303SnowWolf Had a student (CFII applicant) recently show up to a lesson with ChatGPT generated lesson plans. That was a conversation I wasn’t expecting to have that day.

The other day one of our CFIs asked a student what the ceiling of the airspace they were flying through is, and the student whipped out the ChatGPT voice thing and asked it. We are VERY cooked.

Hitting my CFI applicant with the “I dunno, you’re the instructor” after our magnetometer gave up on us today was neat. A beautiful nonissue really.

Departing in great VFR with bad weather 3+ hours away for local practice approaches but then freezing fog rolls in, field goes LIFR, and we’re AOG at a crop duster field in rural ND. Who says flight instruction is boring?

No trust me, it wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t for the wind.

New chart cycle today and GFK looks a lot bigger with an extra 1/2mi added to 27R. Very cool to see the new charts with 2 years of work to completely remove and replace/extend 27R & twy B finally published.

To the CFIs out there that have renewed their cert on the FIRC route…does anyone have an online course they recommend? My renewal is coming due in February and I want to just get it knocked out sooner than later.

Hitting the Publish button on AirlineApps just now was a bit surreal BUT…it means we’re moving up in the world.

Could never settle down out here BUT after spending some time with 2 of my best friends in rural central ND, the place has a special spot in my heart. Some time on the farm away from Grand Forks was good.

And so he gave them the handoff which went like this: ZMP: “Delta, for one last time, contact center on —-.—-“ DL: “Center on —-, congrats on retirement dad, I couldn’t do this without you, I love you”

Was talking to Minneapolis Center for a while on an XC this morning and the controller was on his last shift before retirement. One of the flights he worked while we were with him was flown by none other than his daughter, a Delta pilot. Her flight was about to leave the sector…

Oh, and acutely becoming aware of all the bumper stickers one should have expected to see at a gas station in rural MT while filling up the crew car with my NGPA lanyard on and outside. But that’s their problem to deal with. Happy June.
