@MichaelSch46619 @CornfedBeef We are a ways from that. It has taken 6 weeks of greatly reduced kill to get boxes priced up enough to only be losing 75$ or so. If they pick up kills box go. Packer and Feeder losing money shortly no bueno

We haven’t had a strike in a major US packing plant in 40 years best I recall. Next week will be a new adventure for most. I lived through a few in the 1980’s. They were no fun.

@JerodMcDaniel Who knew buying the cheapest animal possible but skipping cash negotiating on the back end and turning them in for +1 or +2 would ever have its downfall. Took leverage away from generations of feeders.

@LorenDempster If you had the chance to peak into the programming from these automated systems you would be shocked at what they use to focus on their trades. There are a lot of them to bad inputs still yields profits by the concept of volume.

When you have more meat to sell and the only bid you have is yourself going to the freezer seems like a problem.

@TheGrainiac I agree, no single solution and regs add hurtles to entry. Everything is a trade off. Should regs be relaxed on smaller operations to allow for ease of entry? Should there be an escalation of scrutiny/oversight as they scale up in size to insure fair markets practices?

@NateGraham83 But there also has to be incentive to add value to the raw commodity.

For no one to be a socialist an awful lot of people think the gov should be able to tell a private business how to operate.

@TheGrainiac Let me ask this question Who polices any of this then? I have less faith in the Gov to do anything let alone the right thing. If we were in a healthy market a ‘common cold’ shouldn’t cause existential consequences. Seen this play out before, just producers sounding alarm

@TheGrainiac Agree 💯 One of the arguments I’d use for that case is the need for Gov oversight in food safety in packing houses 100 years ago. See Upton Sinclair. Creates a barrier for entire for new plants to come online. Consolidation path of least resistance. ~Vaccine side effects~

@roesch_scott I’ve bought calves from a rancher that had sold them many years to Walmart sweetheart feedlot. They told him to change bulls or they would pay less. He said pound sand. I bought them. Made good money and so did the rancher. Lots of sellers lots of buyers lots of options

Where does all the beef get sold…….all genetics are nearly the same today anyway!

@leereichmuth We use 2 consider 3% DL a wreck when we were n the stocker business & now I hear some say it’s as much as 7% DL or more this time of year. U r correct the ability 2 recover from BRD is not bred into cattle these days. Get sick & die quick. Figure increase n DL y/y & add that up

The difference between north and south on feeders is quite impressive. Some of these cattle in the north pencil for me at a negative $400 loss. I’m all for being bullish but geez. But we might be just that tight on feeders too. Pretty wild irregardless!!

@DannyRichburg It might be the worst business in the history of the capitalism. If you added up the value of all the assets that are dedicated to producing beef - ranches, feedlots and packing plants - And how much $$ is made by all the parties involved it’s a terrible ROI🤷🏻‍♂️🤣

Tyson just announced earning. Lost 1.1 Billion in the Beef segment last year. Operating margin - 5.2 %. When Pam and the DOJ comes calling if I was in charge I’d hand her the keys!! 🤣🤷🏻‍♂️🤪
