Rewatching this, Isak was buzzing. He scored the winner to seal the trophy, buried that penalty away at Brighton and fought to get the ball off Verbruggen, a huge moment in hindsight. He looked devastated when we thought we’d blown it v Everton and was delirious when the Villa result came through. Fuck knows what changed in the summer, but it’s a shame it did. He’d earned club legend status, then undid so much of it with his actions, whether that was his call or bad advice. I’d moved on tbh, but seeing his interview with the Swedish press today, it’s clear it ended bitterly for both sides. I reckon there’ll be some regret there. Maybe in time, perspectives will soften and we’ll just remember him as a player who delivered for us.
