Nice Guys, Happy Family pix, & DV🧵 The first time my ex husband hit me, was after I had taken $200 out of our account to put a deposit on a washing machine. He apparently used to check the bank balance on his way home from work each night (no atms/online banking back then). 1/

1/ I’m an Israeli academic. My community is still too silent about the war in Gaza. Following my viral tweet last month, this is the updated & expanded version of how I see things based on >1000 articles and 1000s of videos/images of the war. 🧵of summary conclusions:

In 1967, during the Vietnam War, an American soldier held up a Scolopendra subspinipes, a species of giant centipede found throughout Asia. The centipede preys on insects like spiders and scorpions but can overpower small mammals or reptiles. It uses its venomous jaws and other legs to immobilize its prey until the fast-acting venom takes effect. The centipede's body is reddish-brown and can reach a maximum length of 12 inches (30 cm). In the photo, the centipede is being held up by a fishing line and appears closer to the camera than the soldier standing nearby, who isn't actually touching the centipede.

Got some more sky invites if any scientists would like one DM me. Think the devs have seen what's going on here and are happy to load us all off here onto their site. It's not without problems but there's an entire science feed, sciart feed, bird feed etc.

Most Italians had never heard of pizza before the 1950s. Carbonara was invented in the United States. Much of what we call classic Italian food — cacio e pepe, tiramisu — was probably invented in the 1960s. And other sacrileges! ft.com/content/6ac009…

@masonfidino I like to use 'language of evidence' when reporting results (see doi.org/10.1016/j.tree…). A p-value >0.05 but <0.1?: "We found weak evidence that X and Y were different". A p-value >0.1?: "We found little evidence that X and Y were different".

I would once again like to remind everyone here that having a p value > 0.05 does not mean that there is no difference between your treatment and control group. Most papers I review make this mistake.

If you had to explain human psychology to aliens, a crucial claim to convey: "humans spend their first decade doing social learning with a very high learning rate, and then often apply the heuristics and strategies learned during that period for the rest of their lives".
