REV. AL SHARPTON CONDEMNS SUPREME COURT’S DECISION TO GUT SECTION 2 OF THE VOTING RIGHTS ACT: “A BULLET IN THE HEART OF THE VOTING RIGHTS MOVEMENT” Sharpton Says Today’s 6-3 Ruling Humiliates the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Dismantles Decades of Hard-Won Civil Rights Progress

Today, we honor the memory of all those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. As we reflect on Memorial Day, we also recognize the often-overlooked history of formerly enslaved Black Americans in Charleston, South Carolina, whose acts of remembrance after the Civil War helped lay the foundation for what would become Memorial Day. We remember their sacrifice, their service, and the enduring legacy of those who fought for both freedom abroad and justice at home. #MemorialDay

Today, May 25, marks six years since George Floyd was killed by police in Minneapolis. In the midst of a global pandemic, we helped lead a movement that brought people into the streets across this nation and around the world to demand justice and accountability. That movement led to the convictions of the officers involved, but we still have not passed the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. The struggle for justice cannot be seasonal or episodic. It must remain consistent, persistent, and unwavering. We owe that to George Floyd, and to every family still fighting for equal justice under the law. RIP Clarence B Jones
Reverend Al Sharpton@TheRevAl

I’m saddened by the news of the passing of Attorney Clarence Jones, Dr. King’s attorney and a mentor and friend to me. He was a brilliant strategist, lawyer, author, and philanthropist. So many of us owe a great debt to Clarence Jones. “Clarence B. Jones, a confidant, lawyer and speechwriter for the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the civil rights struggles of the 1960s, who helped plan the March on Washington and drafted part of Dr. King’s celebrated “I Have a Dream” speech, died on Friday in Cupertino, Calif. He was 95. His death, at an assisted-living facility, was confirmed by his son, Clarence Jr. A brilliant organizer and a member of Dr. King’s inner circle, Mr. Jones planned protest campaigns; raised funds for Dr. King’s Southern Christian Leadership Conference; and coordinated legal strategies to challenge discriminatory laws, defend arrested demonstrators and fight lawsuits against their leaders. He was one of the lawyers who represented four Black ministers in a seminal case of libel law, The New York Times v. Sullivan, in which the United States Supreme Court held that a public official could not win damages for criticism of his official performance without proving that published statements were made with deliberate malice. It was a landmark victory for the constitutional guarantee of freedom of the press, and cleared the way for reporting on widespread disorder and civil rights infringements in the South without fear of libel actions. It was also a clarifying victory for civil rights leaders. “We regarded the suit as an effort to politically discredit the leadership of the direct action civil rights movement of Dr. King,” Mr. Jones told law students at the University of San Francisco in 2012. “The political objective of the lawsuit was to bankrupt and decapitate the civil rights leadership.” The many-sided Mr. Jones was at various times a California entertainment lawyer, the first Black partner…” - full article via nytimes.com/2026/05/25/us/… #RIP #ClarenceBJones

At today’s NAN Saturday Action Rally, Rev. Al Sharpton delivered a message centered on continuity, courage, organizing, and the responsibility of this generation to protect the progress won by those who came before us. From voting rights and redistricting battles to attacks on DEI and economic opportunity, Rev reminded us that the fight for justice requires pressure, persistence, and participation. Reflecting on the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement and the meaning of Memorial Day weekend, Rev called on people across generations to stay engaged, stay informed, and continue building toward the August 28 March on Washington. He also reminded the audience not to become distracted by negativity, division, or those determined to block progress, saying that “eagles just keep flying” and encouraging people to rise above the noise, remain focused on purpose, and keep moving forward. Drawing from the biblical story of Joshua crossing the Jordan River, Rev spoke about the importance of remembering the sacrifices, struggles, and victories that brought us this far, while continuing to build for the generations coming behind us. Visit National Action Network’s YouTube or Facebook pages to watch today’s rally in full, and join us each and every Saturday for the weekly NAN Saturday Action Rally live from Harlem. #NANSaturdayActionRally #NAN instagram.com/reel/DYsKQ-whg…

As we prepare for this week’s NAN Saturday Action Rally, we’re reflecting on special remarks from Rev. Dr. Malcolm J. Byrd, COO of the National Action Network and Senior Pastor of Mother AME Zion Church in Harlem. His message challenged people of faith to lead with purpose, discipline, and responsibility, while reminding us that ministry cannot be separated from the work of justice, advocacy, and service to the community. At a time when so much is testing our values and direction, his words spoke to the need for strong spiritual leadership both inside and outside the church. Join us for the NAN Saturday Action Rally from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. ET at Mother AME Zion Church in Harlem or tune in live on NAN’s YouTube and Facebook pages. #NANSaturdayActionRally #NAN

Week 121📢Yesterday, members of the National Action Network NYC Chapter once again took to the streets to defend diversity, equity, and inclusion at a time when these principles are facing continued coordinated attacks across the country. From corporate rollbacks to political efforts aimed at dismantling programs that expand access and opportunity, the fight for fairness and representation remains urgent. We refuse to normalize silence while progress is being challenged in real time. Our weekly presence outside of anti DEI crusader Bill Ackman’s office is a reminder that equity still matters, opportunity must remain within reach for all communities, and the work of protecting civil rights did not end with past generations. Each Thursday, we continue to stand visible and committed to the work ahead. Join us every Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 787 11th Avenue in New York City 📷: David R. #DEIThursdays #NANnyc

Earlier this week, Maryland Governor Wes Moore visited the NAN Greater Baltimore chapter meeting as the guest speaker. Under the leadership of Larry Young, the monthly meeting was a success, with more than 145 attendees joining in support of the ongoing work to organize, mobilize, and engage the community around the issues impacting Maryland and the nation. We thank Governor Wes Moore and everyone who joined and supported the meeting as the chapter continues building momentum ahead of the important work ahead. The next meeting in June will be a GOTV Rally focused on mobilizing voters ahead of Maryland’s primary election on June 23.

Choose Healthy Life Clergy Council Co-Chair Rev. Al Sharpton is asking New Yorkers, and people across the country, to pay attention to a program that affects whether their neighborhood pharmacy stays open and whether they can afford their next prescription. The 340B Drug Pricing Program was created to help low-income and rural patients afford their medications. Without real transparency, too much of that money is ending up elsewhere instead of reaching the patients it was meant for. "In Harlem and at National Action Network chapters across the state, I've heard from countless patients who have lost their neighborhood pharmacy and are now choosing between groceries and a monthly prescription."
