India's surveillance infrastructure has three challenges. Foreign dependence: most CCTV hardware is Chinese or American, and some Chinese vendors are now restricted by MeitY. Replacing it all is too costly, so India needs an indigenous software layer that secures legacy systems without a full rebuild. Generic intelligence: global AI models struggle with dense crowds and chaotic traffic. India needs AI trained on local behavioural patterns and threat signatures. Cloud dependence: a 16 camera setup generates around 1 TB of video a day, too much and too sensitive for the cloud given DPDP. Intelligence has to run at the edge. Gaurav is building indigenous lithium refining technology to strengthen India's critical mineral security and support the country's EV future.
