Islamophobia has no place in Canada. 9 years ago today, the lives of 6 Canadian Muslims were horrifically taken in an Islamophobic act of terror in Québec City that left 19 more people injured. As we remember them, we remain committed to building a country where Canadians of all faiths can live openly, freely, and safely.

This January 29th, the ninth anniversary of the Quebec City mosque shooting that shook this country, ask your local city officials and businesses if they are taking steps to tackle Islamophobia across Canada. Join our #GreenSquareCampaign and ask our leaders about what they’re doing to stop the recent spike in anti-Muslim hatred. What are they doing to make sure that we end Islamophobia in Canada? Monuments across the country, including the J. Allyn Taylor Building, will be lit green on this National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action Against Islamophobia

The recent surge in hateful comments and threats toward Amira Elghawaby, the Special Representative on Combatting Islamophobia, are disgraceful and entirely unacceptable. Disagreement is legitimate, harmful or abusive conduct, including disinformation, is not.

I am calling on the Minister to summon the Israeli Ambassador and demand a formal written explanation. Anything less risks normalizing the mistreatment of Canadian parliamentarians and citizens abroad.

Canadian MPs were turned away from visiting the West Bank today. We will have more to say.

Today a private delegation of Canadians—which included Members of Parliament—was denied entry to the West Bank at an Israeli border crossing. Global Affairs is in contact with the delegation and we have expressed Canada’s objections regarding the mistreatment of these Canadians while attempting to cross.

The Australian National Imams Council (ANIC), the Council of Imams NSW and the Australian Muslim community unequivocally condemn the horrific shootings in Bondi.

We are horrified by the shooting today at Bondi Beach, taking the lives of 11 innocent souls. To the Canadian Jewish community, know that like the Muslim grocer in Australia who reportedly intervened to take down the gunman in this horrifying terrorist attack, we stand with you against hate, anti-Semitism, and in mourning.

Yesterday, CSIS Director Dan Rogers met with the NCCM CEO Stephen Brown to discuss, among other things, the omission of the need to address violent Islamophobia in Canada, as a part of the Director's annual remarks this year. This was a concern to many given the 2017 Quebec Mosque shooting, the 2021 London Terror Attack, and numerous waves of escalating anti-Muslim street attacks, mosque invasions, and other incidents that have affected the Muslim community. Yesterday's meeting included a discussion around the importance of challenging the rise of violence on our streets, growing white nationalist violence, and public safety. A letter of apology has also been written in relation to the initial omission. We will work to ensure that we make a better Canada - together.

Today, Director Dan Rogers met with the @nccm CEO Stephen Brown to discuss shared interests in combating Islamophobia and keeping Muslims in Canada safe. We continue to work together to fight Islamophobia, and all forms of violent extremism.
