The new eRZL with 87 percent less sugar has glucose, sodium, Potassium, chloride similar(not the same) to WHO recommended formula, in addition to other VitC, magnesium, calcium, taurine etc. It is artificially sweetened with Sucralose. Sucralose is not allowed in infants, and toddlers below 2 years of age. It is allowed at a maximum of 5 to 15mg/kg per day after that, though it is not recommended to be given on a regular basis because of the issues of gut disturbances, diarrhoea, development of preferences for sweet foods, loss of appetite for healthy foods, and unclear long term effects. It is not recommended at all to be a part of any liquid that is given to combat dehydration in children, for obvious reasons (worsening diarrhoea, cramps, bloating etc). Even now, 80 percent of Indians are unaware of the fact that ORSL was not ORS, and are likely to still mistake the restickered ones(eRZL) as ORSL(ORS as far as they are concerned), and the new 87 percent less sugar version(eRZL) as ORSL(ORS as far as they are concerned), is what I believe. In that case, eRZL(restickered ones) and the eRZL(new 87 percent less sugar formulations) may wreak the same havoc that they have wreaked for two decades because of the public's perception of them as the real ORS. I do not want to be the only one fighting for the cause if you all believe the rebranding is not going to confuse the 80 percent of Indians I am talking about. Object to the eRZL rebranding and ask for ethical rebranding which will not make the parent mistake the new branding for the real ORS, if you agree with me. Otherwise, leave it at that.
