Yesterday, I had the honour of representing His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, at the Presidential Business Enabling Environment Council (PEBEC) Reform & Diplomatic Roundtable 2026, for the 10 best performing states on ease of doing business in Nigeria. Kano’s position among Nigeria’s top 10 states reflects deliberate action through evidence based reforms. In line with the Kano First Agenda, real reforms have been implemented making it easier to do business, reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks, and strengthening investor confidence. During a panel discussions on translating reforms into investor confidence, I shared Kano’s approach to de-risking investment through regulatory efficiency, institutional coordination, and targeted sectoral opportunities. The focus remains clear: turning policy reforms into bankable projects and measurable outcomes. These efforts are driven by strong political will of His Excellency, Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf and a clear vision for industrialization, positioning Kano as a competitive destination for both domestic and global capital. Muhammad Nazir Halliru DG/CEO, Kan-Invest

Today, I had the privilege to represent His Excellency, Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Nigeria–UAE Investment Forum (INVESTOPIA Global Africa) in Lagos, a high-level engagement convened by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, in collaboration with the Ministry of Investment and the Ministry of Economy and Tourism of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), following the conclusion of the Nigeria–UAE Economic Partnership Agreement. The forum reflects our shared ambition to deepen trade, expand investment flows, and strengthen long-term economic cooperation between both countries in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda. Kano is strategically positioned to benefit from this partnership, given its historic role as Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre, its large and dynamic market, growing manufacturing sector, and Kano First reforms under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to improve the state’s ease of doing business. As we begin a new week, I reflect on a productive series of strategic engagements held last week, focused on unlocking Kano State’s vast investment potential and strengthening our agro-industrial and energy ecosystems. I had the pleasure of receiving a delegation from Sun Crops Agriculture Limited (SCA), a subsidiary of the Lee Group of Companies Nigeria, alongside Wah Yuen Foods Ltd, a Hong Kong–based food processing company. The discussions centered on their interest in establishing meat processing operations in Kano State, with the aim of enhancing livestock value chains, boosting local agro-industrial capacity, and creating sustainable economic opportunities. I received the team alongside officials from the Kano Ministry of Livestock Development, which served as an important first step in kickstarting conversations around investment collaboration. We also shared our administration’s priorities to livestock value chain investment. I also received a delegation from Huawei Digital Power and Haske Digital Energy to explore an investment partnership in integrated renewable energy solutions aimed at contributing to the reduction of electricity supply gaps in Kano State. The discussions further covered the development of a renewable energy skills and capacity-building program, designed to equip young people with relevant technical skills. Lastly, I delivered a keynote address titled “From Knowledge to Capital: Empowering Young People to Drive Regional Investment and Development” at FINWISE 2.0, organized by The Investment Society, Bayero University Kano, held at the Dangote Business School. The session was designed to prepare students—who formed the majority of participants and withdrawn also from other tertiary institutions—to better understand the investment process, financing options, and emerging opportunities, while also sharing insights into Kano State’s investment agenda driven by His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. These engagements reaffirm His Excellency’s commitment to position Kano as a leading destination for investment, and inclusive growth. Muhammad Nazir Halliru DG/CEO, Kan-Invest

Today, the Kano State Executive Council under the leadership of our amiable principal, the people’s Governor, His Excellency, Gov. Abba K. Yusuf, has approved the Kano State Public–Private Partnership (PPP) Policy and PPP Manual for immediate implementation. This landmark approval represents a significant turning point in Kano’s investment journey, by sending a strong signal to local and international investors that Kano State is open, ready, and prepared to do business under clear, transparent, and predictable PPP frameworks. The newly approved PPP policy and manual provide a clear roadmap for how PPP projects will be identified, structured, procured, and managed, with the Kan-Invest playing a central coordinating role. The framework strengthens institutional clarity, reduces risks, enhances transparency, and, most importantly, builds investor confidence by ensuring consistency and accountability in project delivery. This bold step underscores the Governor’s commitment to inclusive growth across various sectors to close the state’s infrastructure gap, private sector participation, and long-term economic sustainability. Once again, we sincerely commend and appreciate His Excellency, Gov. Abba K Yusuf for this strategic decision that will accelerate development, create jobs, and secure a prosperous future for Kano State. Muhammad Nazir Halliru DG/CEO, Kan-Invest

Today, Kan-Invest successfully concluded a two-day rigorous capacity building on Public Private Partnerships (PPP) with the support of PACE program, for Deputy Directors and Technical Officers from key MDAs in Kano State — including the Ministries of Land and Physical Planning, Works, Transport, Justice, Environment & Climate Change, Health, Education, Power & Renewable Energy, Livestock Development, Agriculture, Procurement, Monitoring & Evaluation, among others. The training was aimed at building the skills of the civil servants to operationalize PPP investments in the state, covering critical areas necessary for effective PPP delivery in Kano. These include the legal and institutional framework, identifying sector infrastructure deficits and investment opportunities, improving project preparation and bankability, risk sharing, etc. as contained in the validated PPP policy and manual. In my remarks, I emphasized the visionary commitment of His Excellency, Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf, toward infrastructural development under the urban renewal project and his plans to reduce infrastructural deficits in the state. I also encouraged participants to maximize this golden opportunity to master the PPP framework, as they are the frontline drivers across their sectors in project identification and harnessing the vast investment potential within the state. Kan-Invest remains dedicated to building strong institutions, and positioning Kano as a leading investment destination in the country. Muhammad Nazir Halliru DG/CEO, Kan-Invest

The patrol police vehicle from Tsanyawa Division is currently in Kano, protecting a deposed emir, while Tsanyawa is left vulnerable to kidnappers due to its proximity to insecure Katsina towns. Allegations suggest a senator from the region is behind this deployment, prioritizing political interests over citizen safety.

This week has been deeply engaging and impactful for our investment promotion efforts. Earlier in the week, I had the privilege of hosting the Research and Innovation Systems for Africa (RISA) Fund and the Coalition Network of Stakeholders in Agricultural Mechanization (CONESAM) teams in my office under the Adam Smith International. The discussions centered on the upcoming National Agricultural Mechanization and Innovation Summit (NAMIS25) and other strategic initiatives aimed to drive agri investment and mechanization in our agricultural sector in Kano. I also had the opportunity to represent the Deputy Governor of Kano, Com. Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, at the Made in Nigeria Trade Exhibition held at the National Assembly complex, organized by the House Committee on Commerce. The event brought together industry stakeholders, policy leaders, and exhibitors showcasing Nigeria’s manufacturing potential and explored collaborations with other economies. I concluded the week with delivering a keynote address at the maiden Northern Creative Conference hosted by Sparklab Innovation Hub in Kano, where I shared the vast investment potential of our creative sector, financing mechanisms and potential funding opportunities available through federal programs, DFIs, and other investors. Overall, the engagements reflect the unwavering commitment of His Excellency, Governor Abba K Yusuf to firmly position Kano as a leading destination for investment, and economic opportunity. Yesterday, I had fruitful engagements with several key partners driving Kano’s investment agenda. First, I received the Carter Consulting team, the Transaction Advisors for the implementation of the Special Agro Processing Zone (SAPZ) project in Kano. We discussed the development of an investment pillar for the project that will outsource foreign and domestic investors as off-takers, design and establishment of specific Special Purpose Vehicles (SPV) among others, to stimulate the operations of the processing facilities. The project promises huge potential for the state, creating sustainable market for our farmers and perfectly fits our five-year investment plan. I also met with the officials of NM Energy Partners on their plans to invest in a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) power plant for our industries in the state, creating an affordable and alternative energy source. Lastly, I also received the representatives of NB Ceramics Ltd on a working visit to further discuss their investment expansion plan and available incentives we would facilitate. All these engagements align with the vision of Gov. Abba K Yusuf to make Kano the most business-friendly and investment-ready state in Nigeria.
