You are entitled to your opinion, but I would like to understand exactly how you believe I 'sold out the struggle.' My decision to exercise my political rights, as guaranteed by Section 67 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, is not a betrayal, it is a fundamental freedom. I chose to disassociate from individuals whose principles did not align with my vision for genuine change. Popularity does not equate to integrity, and I refuse to compromise my values for the sake of following the crowd. My commitment remains to the people of Zimbabwe, not to political theatrics.

I appreciate the concern raised about my absence at Blessed Dhara Mhlanga’s court appearance. However, I believe that my statement of solidarity was a clear stance in support of press freedom and the protection of journalists. Politicians should not be at the forefront of journalist solidarity because it risks further politicizing the issue and exposing the journalist to additional persecution on political grounds. Journalists themselves should take the lead in standing up for their rights and expressing their frustrations without political figures overshadowing their cause. Just yesterday, we saw how pictures of politicians attending the court went viral, instead of images of journalists standing in solidarity. This shifts the focus from the core issue, press freedom, and instead fuels narratives of political interference. The fourth estate must be empowered to lead its own advocacy for media rights without political hijacking. I remain in full support of press freedom and journalists' rights and will always use my voice to amplify their struggle, but I also respect the need for journalists to drive their own fight for justice.

@lilomatic Did you go to court to protest against the arrest of Blessed Mhlanga?

@lilomatic Well said Linda. I also felt the same when l saw high presence of political figures at the forefront instead of the journalists themselves. This gives a bad picture. We need more pictures of fellow journalists and media personalities leading the advocacy.

The recent Air Zimbabwe Boeing 767-200 flight carrying injured Tanzanian, Malawian, and South African soldiers from the DRC to their respective countries highlights Zimbabwe’s crucial role in regional peacekeeping and humanitarian efforts. This mission, which operated as a shuttle ambulance service, underscores Zimbabwe’s continued commitment to regional stability and international cooperation. Amid ongoing military tensions in the eastern DRC, Zimbabwe played a pivotal role in ensuring that wounded soldiers received timely medical evacuation. The coordination of this mission from Kinshasa, through Kigali, and onward to Tanzania, Malawi, and South Africa demonstrates Zimbabwe’s capability in logistical support and crisis response. Too often, Zimbabwe’s contributions to Africa and the world are overlooked. This operation is just one example of how Zimbabwe continues to play a constructive role beyond its borders. Historically, Zimbabwe has been an active participant in peacekeeping missions, regional mediation, and humanitarian support across Africa. From its involvement in SADC peacekeeping operations to its strong stance on Pan-African solidarity, Zimbabwe has always been at the forefront of regional development and security. It is imperative that as Zimbabweans, we amplify these positive contributions. The narrative around Zimbabwe should not always focus on challenges but also on the meaningful and impactful roles our nation plays in the international arena. Telling our success stories is crucial in shaping perceptions, boosting national pride, and asserting Zimbabwe’s relevance on the global stage. This mission serves as a reminder that Zimbabwe is more than just its struggles, it is a nation of resilience, expertise, and unwavering regional solidarity. Let us celebrate and promote these positive contributions as we continue to engage with the world.

Today, an Air Zimbabwe Boeing 767-200 carried injured South African soldiers, as well as Tanzanian and Malawian troops who were in the DRC, back home from Kigali to their respective countries. Flying under the call sign FSK150, the plane dropped the Tanzanian soldiers first before heading to Malawi and then South Africa. It is a charter aircraft out of Kinshasa, leased to Mont Gabon Airlines. The flight was used as Shuttle Ambulance Service as it had injured soldiers from Tanzania, Malawi and South Africa. The soldiers were first moved from Goma to Kigali, as Goma is a no-go area for planes due to the military tension!

Press freedom is indeed a political issue, as it is constitutionally enshrined. However, that does not mean politicians should overshadow journalists in their own struggle. The fight for press freedom should be journalist-led, with politicians playing a supportive role rather than taking centre stage. When politicians become the face of such solidarity, it risks shifting the narrative from press freedom to political affiliation, which can lead to further persecution of the journalist in question. The focus should remain on the protection of media practitioners and the integrity of the fourth estate, not on political actors. My stance is clear: I support press freedom, and I will always advocate for it. But I also believe that journalists should lead their own fight, without their struggle being hijacked for political expediency.
Busi Chete@busigirlxx

The recent statement from the Rwandan government in response to the UK's punitive measures regarding the ongoing conflict in eastern DRC raises serious concerns about Rwanda’s role in the region. While Rwanda condemns external interventions and accuses the DRC government of security failures, it simultaneously maintains a military presence and continues engaging in actions that escalate tensions rather than de-escalating them. If Rwanda is truly committed to a peaceful and negotiated settlement, why does it continue its military operations in eastern DRC instead of fully endorsing the African-led mediation process? If the priority is security guarantees, shouldn't Rwanda demonstrate its commitment to diplomacy by withdrawing military involvement and engaging in transparent discussions with regional stakeholders? It is evident that all countries in the region, including the DRC, are under pressure to engage in dialogue and work toward lasting peace. Rwanda’s continued military actions contradict its claims of seeking a peaceful resolution. If instability benefits external actors, as Rwanda suggests, then the best course of action would be to support de-escalation and international peace efforts rather than contribute to further hostilities. We call upon Rwanda to clarify its position and demonstrate, through tangible actions, that it is genuinely committed to peace in the DRC. The people of the region deserve stability, security, and a future free from conflict.
Samuel Baker BYANSI@SamuelBaker_B

Rwanda sanctioned #Belgium as she was preparing to cut funding over #Kigali’s involvement in eastern #DRCongo, calling it “punitive” and “interference.” Now the #UK has taken similar measures - but Kigali’s response stops short of sanctions. For consistency, shouldn’t the UK face the same treatment? Rwanda’s statement condemns the #UK for “choosing a side” yet insists on its own right to act militarily in #DRCongo, despite repeated international warnings. It shifts blame entirely to #Kinshasa while downplaying documented #RDF and #M23 violations. Calling for diplomacy while escalating conflict is contradictory. If #Kagame truly values African-led peace efforts, why undermine them with continued military action?

Dear Rwanda Minister of Foreign Affairs, Following Rwanda’s recent statement regarding the UK’s punitive measures in response to the conflict in eastern DRC, we seek official clarification regarding Rwanda’s continued military involvement in the region. In your statement, you emphasized the need for security guarantees and criticized the lack of accountability for the DRC government. However, Rwanda remains militarily active in eastern DRC despite ongoing regional peace negotiations. This raises the following critical questions: 1. If Rwanda is committed to a peaceful, negotiated resolution, why does it maintain a military presence in eastern DRC? 2. Why has Rwanda not demonstrated full commitment to the African-led mediation process by de-escalating its military actions? 3. What security guarantees would Rwanda consider sufficient to withdraw its military activities and engage solely in diplomatic solutions? 4. How does Rwanda justify its continued military engagement while urging the international community to support a negotiated solution? Given the urgency of resolving the conflict and preventing further instability in the Great Lakes region, we request a formal response addressing these concerns. A clear stance from Rwanda will help determine the best path toward sustainable peace and regional stability. We look forward to your response and a commitment to constructive dialogue. Yours Sincerely Linda Tsungirirai Masarira 3rd Vice-President COPAN

𝐑𝐖𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐀 𝐑𝐄𝐆𝐑𝐄𝐓𝐒 𝐌𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐄𝐒 𝐁𝐘 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐔𝐊 The punitive measures announced today by the UK Government in response to the conflict in eastern DRC – where the UK has now clearly chosen a side – are regrettable. It is unreasonable to expect Rwanda to compromise its national security and the safety of Rwandans. The measures do nothing to help the Democratic Republic of Congo, nor do they contribute to achieving a sustainable political solution to the conflict in eastern DRC. 🔗: minaffet.gov.rw/updates/news-d…

Condemnation of MPs' and Senators' Extravagant Privileges Amidst Zimbabwe’s Economic Struggles The recent revelation that Zimbabwean Members of Parliament (MPs) and Senators now enjoy free tollgate passage, free parking, and the registration of two vehicles exempt from toll fees is yet another blatant display of elite privilege in a country where millions struggle to afford basic necessities. This new perk, added to their long list of extravagant benefits, is a direct insult to the suffering masses. A Selfish and Wasteful Political Class While ordinary Zimbabweans are burdened with high transport costs, poor wages, and relentless economic hardships, our lawmakers continue to prioritize their own comfort over the needs of the people who elected them. The current perks for MPs and senators include: • Luxury cars – Funded by taxpayers, these vehicles are often beyond the reach of ordinary citizens who work tirelessly for a living. • Diplomatic passports – Giving them international travel privileges while most citizens struggle to get even a basic passport. • Constituency Development Fund (CDF) – A legalized avenue for abuse and mismanagement, with little to no tangible development in communities. • Housing loans – Heavily subsidized while the majority of Zimbabweans can’t afford decent housing. • Foreign trips – Funded by taxpayers, yet these trips rarely result in meaningful policy improvements for the country. • Two vehicle registrations & free tollgate passage – MPs get to drive freely on Zimbabwe’s roads while ordinary citizens are forced to pay ever-increasing toll fees. • Free parking anywhere – While businesses and ordinary workers struggle with expensive and limited parking spaces in urban areas. • Fuel coupons – At a time when many workers can not afford transport costs. • High salaries and sitting allowances – Yet these same MPs fail to push for living wages for civil servants and the private sector. • Possible term extensions – Prolonging their grip on power while failing to deliver on their electoral promises. The Reality for Ordinary Zimbabweans • Over 7.6 million Zimbabweans face acute food shortages and rising poverty levels. • Public healthcare is collapsing, yet MPs are focused on personal luxuries. • Transport and fuel costs are unbearable for workers, but MPs don’t feel the pinch. • Youth unemployment is at crisis levels, yet MPs and Senators focus on their own wealth accumulation instead of job creation policies. A Call to Reject Bourgeois Leadership It is unacceptable that our leaders behave like the privileged elite of a feudal system, living in comfort while the majority suffer. We demand immediate reforms, including: • A salary and benefits review for MPs and Senators to remove unnecessary luxuries. • A ban on unnecessary foreign trips that waste state funds. • A full audit of the CDF to ensure accountability and transparency. • Investment in public healthcare, education, and job creation instead of prioritizing MPs’ privileges. • An end to wasteful expenditures and a commitment to pro-poor policies. Zimbabwe can not continue being a playground for the politically connected while the masses suffer. Leaders must serve the people, not themselves! It is time to demand accountability and reject leadership that prioritizes self-enrichment over national progress. Ehe #NdiniNdadaro #PeoplesLivelihoodsFirst
