The allocation? N$6,000,000 → N$6,800,000. Taxpayer money. Your money. When confronted, the Deputy Minister of Defence stood before Parliament and flatly denied it exists. But here it is. Page 430. JUST IN: Former South West African Territorial Force (SWATF) members have handed over a petition in Windhoek on Thursday, demanding compensation, recognition, and equal treatment from the government and international bodies. The group claims a N$36 million fund meant for their benefit has not been distributed eight years after it was allegedly transferred to Namibia. They are calling for inclusion under the Veterans Act, access to housing, medical care, and economic support, and an end to alleged intimidation. The petition was submitted to the President, Prime Minister, and the United Nations, among others, with a 21-day response deadline. Similar demands date back to 2016, when former SWATF members petitioned Parliament for recognition and benefits, raising longstanding grievances over exclusion and alleged neglect. Education minister Sanet Steenkamp was visibly upset in the National Assembly on Wednesday while reacting to remarks of Nudo member of parliament Vetaruhe Kandorozu that education deputy minister Dino Ballotti does do not look like a Namibian and that “white Europeans are not Namibians.” Reacting to the remarks, Steenkamp demanded to know what Kandorozu meant by his statement. “We are all Namibians. This is not an isolated incident. It follows the disturbing pattern of intimidation seen in the attack on journalist Anna Nicodemus. When will it stop? A journalist’s phone was seized, her car photographed, and she was threatened with arrest. Her crime? Since when does a President’s “no” to a question become a lawful reason to escort, threaten, and silence the press? This is authoritarian bullying! Our press FREEDOM, a pillar of our hard-won democracy, is under direct attack. This administration’s actions scream a dangerous message: “Ask uncomfortable questions, and we will crush you.” We demand answers from President Netumbo and spokesperson Jonas; 1. Did the President order this harassment? 2. Will the officers be held accountable for their threats? 3. How do you justify this blatant abuse of power against a woman just doing her job?
