@jenbrea Government in general. The hoops you have to jump through applying for SSDI are exhausting and very difficult to do if you're ill. Then after all that you get a denial letter saying you can work when you so clearly can't.

Institutionalized ableism? Check. Welfare spending, scientific research, the medical system, public access, hiring & employment, consumer design, the media. We don't even do the minimum rational, in everyone's self-interest stuff yet.

@JessicaXDiamond There's a steep learning curve and even long timers learn something new every day, so just focus on the bigger picture for now, so you don't get overwhelmed, crash and burn. You will learn as you go and as you do it will get easier Context: 12 years veg, most of them vegan

Preying on the severely ill to make a buck is NOT ok #IamJamison #IamJake #IamBekah #IamJill #IamCarmen #IamPilar #IamStar #Afflicted #mecfs

As many of you know AFFLICTED, the docuseries I’m in, wasn’t what we expected. Here is a short group blog post that outlines our grievances about #Afflicted. If you want ALL the details check out the links at the bottom — you’re gonna want to read them! @afflicted/the-truth-behind-netflixs-afflicted-92e92d32cd7c" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">medium.com/@afflicted/the…

Participants in @netflix's #Afflicted speak out. We were all told that we would be participating in a project that would show our lives and our struggles with illness through a “compassionate lens.” @afflicted/the-truth-behind-netflixs-afflicted-92e92d32cd7c" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">medium.com/@afflicted/the…

@Hippiechickie36 Confused as to why you're in such a huff over people being upset about this film. What do you gain by berating the severely ill and their allies?

@MEflattened @jenbrea @JanetDafoe cont'd... The fact that they are likely mostly younger (it's mainly residents and some med students) means they're not set in their ways yet, so there's probably a better chance we could get through to them

@jenbrea @NedaEftekhar Thanks, Jen. The mocking of patients by Drs sickening. See esp “NoFlyingMonkeys,” MD, PhD at Univ, particularly horrible (click on all “addl comments” so you don’t miss anything by this hateful human).Even calls Ron Davis’s research wrong as patients “deconditioned.” @JanetDafoe

If nothing else, #Afflicted drives home that the destigmatization of "mental" illness and "physical" chronic illness are inexorably linked. The dismissal of autoimmune/allergic/neurological conditions is possible in part BECAUSE it's socially acceptable to call people "crazy"

@MEflattened @jenbrea @JanetDafoe He's really arrogant for sure. I think I was so shocked because these doctors are young (or at least young to the profession), and with medicine moving towards a more collaborative model I expected them to be a bit less arrogant and close-minded.

@Saturnation8 @jenbrea Yes, a few acknowledge it is real. A couple more say it *may* be real- not because they believe us, but because there is a lot of research to support it. The arrogance of doctors who will only consider that something is real if there is research to support it!

@jenbrea Totally understand. I left a comment and at least one other me/cfs warrior has done the same. Hopefully they will read them and see how damaging their attitudes are
