Happy publication day to my book baby 🥳 I hope you’ll enjoy this deliberately realistic and fast-paced glimpse into modern Australian hospitals and medical training, and how patients, and healthcare workers might live, love and survive. Available at all bookstores, today!

I think it’s worth remembering that bears are still really dangerous.

@usamasyedMD Great point 👍 also as a patient I wouldn’t mind a countdown timer during the doctor visit and then at the end of the consultation a “Would you like to ask 3 more questions for an extra $100?”

Today I walked out of a doctors office after they were 30 minutes late to see me “Can I just do this later? I’ve been waiting for 30 minutes and I have a meeting— I’ll call to reschedule” The front desk seemed shocked but I wasn’t trying to make a big deal out of it No lesson here but I wonder what your breaking point is — how long do you expect to wait at the doctor? Any why do we normalize this behavior of them being so late when we are the ones paying?? 😅

Some of my favourite photos are of the aurora taken by astronauts on the ISS. I think of them often as a reminder that everything has a different perspective.

@twsoh We could still use 500 billion of infrastructure funding in the outer east. Or even a part of that 500 billion.

@NeelaJan To be fair, I used to work for Eastern Health years ago, and there was quite a bit of investment in Box Hill and Maroondah hospitals out in the east.

Instead of governments building hospitals in inner city areas where no one lives and no staff can afford to live - what if they invested in suburban health services where patients and staff actually live?

@NeelaJan It's accessible from CityLink and city arterials and soon by metro and tram. The Austin is the only outer major hospital with a train station, and parking there sucks. Maybe your patients being dissatisfied is not a good metric for hospital placement planning.

@NeelaJan It's actually easy to get to when there isn't tunnel construction, and it will be much easier to get to when the metro is done. It needs a big car park, but hospitals love to make car parking a profit centre.

@NeelaJan I agree. In good news, I had to go to emergency on Saturday afternoon. On public transport (it wasn’t life threatening). My choices, the Austin , Northern or Royal Melbourne. I went to RMH and I was in and out, x rayed and my finger in a splint in less than an hour. Incredible.

@rpcounat I think all the Parkville funding should be diverted to the actual population centres around Melbourne.

TL; DR - patients despise travelling to Parkville and many of my patients have avoided necessary medical appointments and care because they hate travelling into that hell hole of narrow roads, too much traffic and no parking. (And no they don’t want to or can’t take a train)

@iamemilymayo - oh look the medical records crashed, the computer decided to update the second I turned it on, or other tech issue - I’m on for drop off and a kid could NOT be gotten moving despite my telling them repeatedly that their 15 min costs 20 people 15 min all day

@ask_aubry Please delete this. I’m a long time follower but this is a shocked and grieving dad; the parents came out early with statements full of care and grace (including wanting to make sure the cop who killed their son was ok); the facts on intent are not known.

Joel Cauchi is a 40 year old man who targeted women because he couldn't get a girlfriend. He even attacked a 9 month old baby girl and killed her mother. Can we stop enabling this behavior and calling him a boy. JFC.

@mariamtokhi Meh. It’s like they have gone off to live their lives. I don’t know what happened to them! That’s why I’m wondering.
