On this #WorldRadioDay, we affirm: Artificial Intelligence is a tool, not a voice. Ethical frameworks and transparency are key to protecting radio’s credibility. Radio is trust. Radio is inclusion. Radio is dialogue. With AI, we can amplify these values, but only if we use it responsibly. #AIForGood ^NM

Yesterday , the Wajir County Government hosted a delegation from KICTANet on a courtesy visit to the Office of the County Government, marking an important milestone in strengthening collaboration around digital inclusion and community resilience in ASAL regions. The KICTANet delegation was led by Mwendwa Kivuva, alongside Michael Musya (Data Analyst) and Neema Masitsa (Communications Advisor). The discussions focused on the Enhanced Digital Access and Community Resilience (EDACR) Programme, a six-month initiative funded by the British High Commission in Nairobi through the FCDO Digital Access Programme (DAP). The programme aligns closely with Wajir County’s development priorities by enhancing digital access, strengthening Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), and building the capacity of youth, women, and marginalized communities. Speaking during the meeting, Mwendwa Kivuva noted: “The EDACR programme is about ensuring that digital access translates into real economic and social value for communities. By strengthening VSLAs and empowering Community Digital Champions, we are building local capacity that will outlive the project itself and support sustainable livelihoods.” On behalf of the county leadership, Mwalimu Bash, Director at the county, emphasized the importance of partnerships, saying: “Wajir County welcomes partnerships that are responsive to our local realities. Digital inclusion is no longer optional—it is a key driver for financial inclusion, service delivery, and resilience for our communities, especially in ASAL areas.” Also present during the meeting were key county stakeholders: 1. Daudi Abdi – Worthy Vision Organisation 2. Abdi Rashid – Department of Finance 3. Mohamed Abdi – Department of ICT 4. Afta Hassan – Cooperative Director The engagement reaffirmed the shared commitment between KICTANet and the Wajir County Government to advance inclusive digital transformation and community-led development. #FCDODigitalDevelopment I hashtag#DigitalAccess4All ^NM

Digital Access Meets Community Resilience in Kenya’s ASAL Counties Garissa and seven other ASAL counties are on the move. Through the Enhanced Digital Access and Community Resilience (EDACR) project, farmers, youth, and cooperatives will be building digital skills, strengthening resilience, and unlocking new economic opportunities. Once defined by pastoralism, the region is now embracing agro-pastoralism, blending tradition with modern farming practices, and digital innovation is at the heart of this transformation. Governor @Nathif_J_Adam captured the spirit of this shift during the Garissa Farmers’ Field Day, “We are moving slowly but surely from pastoralism to becoming agro pastors.” #DigitalAccess4All #FCDODigitalDevelopment kictanet.or.ke/edacr-transfor…

🚨Day 3: Violence against women and girls remains widespread—and it starts early. Those facing multiple forms of discrimination are at even greater risk. Alarmingly, almost 1 in 6 adolescent girls aged 15–19 who have been in a relationship have experienced physical or sexual abuse in the past year. This highlights the urgent need to strengthen protection, challenge harmful norms, and support survivors. If you or someone you know is facing violence online there is help: 📌 Report through the OGBV Tracker: ogbv.kictanet.or.ke/feed 📌 Reach out via the Swahili Tipline: +254758947550 Together, we can build safer spaces for every girl and woman. #ENDOGBVKE, #16DAYSOFACTIVISM ^NM

Key takeaways from the #DigitalMarketsPolicyKe convening opening session. We had a powerful and productive session unpacking the proposed Competition Bill 2024 and its implications for Kenya’s digital economy. Here are the highlights: 🔹Inclusive Dialogue: Stakeholders from across the ecosystem came together to co-create solutions that balance regulation with innovation. 🔹 Policy Impact: As Dr. Grace Githaiga emphasised, the insights shared will be distilled into a policy brief with actionable recommendations for key institutions like CAK and Parliament. 🔹 Digital Market Regulation: The Bill introduces new thresholds for defining market dominance, recognizing the role of data and network effects. This is a game-changer but it must be implemented with care. 🔹 Innovation vs. Regulation: The central question—how do we regulate without stifling innovation or deterring investment? Participants explored practical ways to ensure fair competition while protecting Kenya’s digital growth. 🔹Call to Action: As Ali Hussein, Chairperson Board of Trustees KICTANet reminded us, _“If you're not at the table, you're probably on the menu.” #KenyaDigitalEconomy

🌍 Setting the Scene: KICTANet Thought Leadership Series Policy Roundtable on the Proposed Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2024 #DigitalMarketsPolicyKe Prof. Migai Akech unpacked the complexities of regulating market dominance in digital economies. Drawing from his expertise in European competition law and global regulatory frameworks, he challenged us to rethink how competition law addresses relative market dominance, especially in contexts where firms wield power over dependent partners without holding traditional dominance. Key questions explored: A. Should competition law intervene when firms abuse relative dominance, even without harming market structure? B. How do data protection laws intersect with competition policy? C. What lessons can Kenya draw from global approaches, including Germany’s emphasis on protecting economically dependent entities? Prof. Akech highlighted the unique dynamics of digital platforms like Google, Apple, and Safaricom and the need for nuanced regulation that ensures fairness, contestability, and consumer protection. 🌐 Strengthening Digital Safety for Journalists in Mombasa 🗞️ KICTANet and the Mombasa Press Club (MPC) are pursuing a partnership to enhance digital safety and resilience among journalists in Mombasa County. The collaboration aims to equip journalists with the knowledge and tools to navigate the digital space safely, promote responsible technology use, and create inclusive, gender-sensitive environments for all media practitioners. “Many journalists are victims of the same challenges they report on. That’s why training is so important — to equip them with the knowledge and skills to navigate these issues responsibly and safely,” — Omar Abdallah, Chair, Mombasa Press Club “For too long, these have been Nairobi conversations. Partnering with MPC gives us a chance to expand our reach and ensure journalists across the counties are equipped to stay safe and exercise their freedoms responsibly,” — Cherie Oyier, Gender Programmes Officer, KICTANet Together, we’re building a safer, more resilient digital space for journalists — one conversation, one training at a time Read more: kictanet.or.ke/kictanet-and-m… ^NM
