"I was sleeping, my brothers woke up. I heard someone knocking on the door, my father opened the door, didn't talk to them or anything - and they shot him in the chest." - Testimony of Hussein Tarabin, son of Muhammed who was shot dead last night by Israeli police forces.

someone in the state authorities whose compassion will overcome obedience, and who will stop this evil folly at the last minute? This is not only the moral act but also the wise one, if Israel desires life.>

First publication by Yaniv Sharon on the 'Davar' website: IDF soldiers shot at three civilians at the beginning of the month, in an area north of Mitzpe Ramon, and left the scene without evacuating one of the victims who was in critical condition. The friends of the injured man, Jumaa Alwaj, 20, from Bir al-Dahaj, evacuated him to a rendezvous point with a Magen David Adom team that pronounced him dead. The IDF did not publish anything about the incident, only responding to journalists' inquiries with the claim that the soldiers felt threatened by a car approaching them at high speed. However, the IDF's rules of engagement, writes Sharon, state that a threat of being run over* should be neutralized by shooting at the vehicle's wheels, not at the passengers. For the full story: davar1.co.il/539684/ @yanivsharon7 @davarnews *If there was even a threat. Have you ever heard of a car-ramming attack in the desert? The soldiers were in their own vehicle and could have changed direction in the open area to see if they were truly being pursued. And why would Israeli civilians attempt such an attack? If the soldiers suspected the passengers of the vehicle, why did they disappear immediately after the shooting instead of detaining the uninjured passengers for questioning? Everything is utterly unreasonable. Just like in the execution of Jumaa Danfiri in Retamim, it seems there is an attempt to cover up a serious event from beginning to end — starting with shooting contrary to the rules of engagement and ending with the abandonment of a critically injured person on the scene. #JusticeForJumaa

$275K "Fine": Post-demolition Abuse On Tuesday morning, about ten squad cars escorted a backhoe to perpetrate another abuse mission against the refugees of Wadi Haleel, who have been living in rough conditions since their village was destroyed two months ago. Before the demolition, the village was a thriving orchard, while the houses were modest yet comfortable, and had air conditioning for the hot summer days. By now, even building a small shelter from the scorching sun is illegal. The local residents set up tents every evening and tear them down every morning, afraid the inspectors will fine them. The resulting reality is seniors, adults and schoolkids on vacation, that are spending their days hiding in the trees from the sun. This week, we sat in the haphazard fabric shelter set up by Nasser Abu Asa. He told us how every time the inspectors come close to the neighborhood, he dismantles the ersatz home. On the same day, Nasra had already removed the fabric by the time the backhoe trampled the site of the shelter so it could not be rebuilt. Nasser reported that among the destruction wrought by the backhoe, chicken cages, refrigerators, washing machines, ersatz kitchens and trees were destroyed. Ovens and gas cylinders were also confiscated. This week, "Haaretz" reporter Nir Hasson @nirhasson published a story regarding a court decision from two weeks ago, in which lower court judge Racheli Tiktin Adolam charged 1.04 million shekels, or $275K from Alataika family from Rahat. The family was charged for two demolitions undertook five years ago, necessitated by six court decrees. (did.li/rhkgT). The photos below reveal the absurd amounts charged (in NIS): around 1,600₪ per cop, 600₪ per Ford squad car, 5,000₪ per backhoe and 2,500₪ per truck. It is horrifying to imagine the costs expected by the victims of the Wadi Halil demolition, who lost their entire village. 250 buildings, among them 75 houses, were destroyed on demolition day. The destruction crew consisted of an army of heavy equipment overseen by more than 600 police officers. If carrying out 6 decrees costs 275K$, how much would the administration of the 47 decrees of Wadi Haleel come to? Even the minor damage brought about this week has a high price, that could reach more than 2,500$. Is it worth to waste this amount for excessive and imprudent humanitarian abuse? The state might think that it will be the residents who bear the costs, but it is mistaken. The exorbitant amounts are expected to lead to bankruptcy cases, meaning the state will recieve nothing back. The state should not have a vested interest in bankrupting its citizens. Even harsher than the monetary aspect are the moral and social damages. In this march of folly all are as cruel as Smotrich and Ben Gvir, including the courts. No de jure law can hide this. It will take decades to repair the damages and erase the shame brought upon by these decisions.
