I don’t think I’ve seen a horse gallop up the Cheltenham Hill with such energy, enthusiasm and enjoyment as Il Etait Temps did in the Champion Chase. Considering that this race followed an awful experience for him at Ascot when he hated the conditions and suffered a really heavy fall, and was badly winded, and didn’t get up for a good 10-15 mins, it is great credit to the horse, Virginie, and his trainer for freshening him up and getting him in this frame of mind to put up such a memorable performance. One of the highlights of the festival for me. Horse and jockey in total unison here. Fantastic.
