Shocks from Trump’s war are colliding with a brutal cost-of-living crisis, and our unequal society. Ordinary people feel the pain- the rich profit. Crisis exposes these fault lines. This must be a turning point: bring down bills, block price-gouging on essentials and cap rents.

I’ve worked with experts on a gold-standard Bill to stop fox hunting. We’ve got one chance to get this right. Lobbyists want loopholes so hunting can continue. It happened with the Hunting Act and it will happen again if the law isn’t watertight. Ministers should back my Bill.

Oil companies have doubled their profits amid the chaos caused by Trump’s war. Those rising prices hit the entire country - at the pump, on energy bills and in the cost of food. Labour has to shield ordinary people from the shockwaves of this crisis. Tax all war profiteering.

But replacing it with a private pension style scheme misses what the state pension is for. It’s intergenerational solidarity-transferring money from one generation to another. That’s what National Insurance does. We need to defend the state pension. Not throw it out the window.

The TBI have indentified some of the problems with the state pension, but drawn the wrong conclusions. The level of the state pension remains too low and the state pension age is too high - being out of reach for many with a shorter life expectancy.

Social security isn’t a pot of money to pilfer for spending sprees or cuts. Most goes to pensioners - earned over a lifetime of work. The language of “difficult choices” too often ends with ordinary people paying the price. There are fairer, more Labour ways to raise money.

I presented my Bill to stop fox hunting to Parliament. The Hunting Act failed because it's full of loopholes. Animal lovers won't be forgiving if we repeat that mistake. The Government's reforms will be measured against this gold-standard Bill. Half measures won't cut it.

Pension funds must divest from fossil fuels. It's bad for the planet & for pension holders who need long-term returns. There is no retirement without a liveable planet. Affordable housing we need & green energy to cut bills are stable investments that benefit those paying in.

We’ve got to keep up the fight to protect disabled people’s incomes. Cutting support for young disabled people won’t get them into work - it will push them into poverty. We need to reverse last year’s cuts and fight the growing calls to take even more from disabled people.

Too many Poole families face the worst of both worlds. Low wages and sky-high housing costs. Local Housing Allowance is meant to bridge the gap. But it’s been frozen while rents keep rising. We need higher wages and a safety net that works - so no one is left behind.
