Canada is appalled by the Iranian Government’s execution of a Swedish citizen in Iran. We offer our deepest condolences to the family and express our full solidarity with Sweden. Canada continues to call on the Iranian regime to respect human rights and uphold their responsibilities under international law.

This afternoon, I’ve instructed my Attorney General to pursue an injunction against the Al-Quds Day demonstration planned for Toronto. Hate, violence and intimidation have no place on the streets of Canada and our government will fight it however we can.

Oh C’mon. Trump has unleashed economic turmoil across the world and you blame OUR government? You think this is OUR fault? Tired of politicians either taking credit for job gains (at least we won’t have the Libs going there this time) or blaming their opponents for job losses.

Met with Israel’s Ambassador to Canada, @MoedIddo, and Israel’s Consul General in Toronto, @ShamirIdit, in a critical meeting led by Premier @fordnation and joined by my colleagues. The Premier reiterated that our government will fight to combat antisemitism with absolute resolve. We will continue working closely with all levels of government and law enforcement partners to ensure that the Jewish community’s safety is at the very core of our collective priorities. @IsraelinToronto @IsraelinCanada @IsraelMFA @UJAFederation @CIJAinfo @bnaibrithcanada @CanadianFSWC @Sflecce @MichelleC_PC @laurasthornhill @Andrea_Khanjin @VictorFedeli @StanChoMPP @BramptonGraham

Jewish Canadians, like all Canadians, should never have to their that they are under attack in places of worship, schools, or community spaces. In response to the recent rise in hate-motivated incidents in Toronto and across the country, our government is investing up to $10 million through the Canada Community Security Program (CCSP) to help Jewish institutions strengthen security at gathering spaces such as schools, daycares, camps, and places of worship. We also are pressing to pass our Combatting Hate Legislation which will protect all religions and people in their places of worship. We will continue working closely with community leaders and law enforcement to confront antisemitism and keep Canadians safe, and make sure the perpetrators are speedily brought to justice.

I spoke with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam today. Canada is a long-time partner of Lebanon, and stands in solidarity with its government and people as Lebanon has unwillingly been drawn into the current conflict in the Middle East. We call for all parties to de-escalate and respect Lebanese sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Once again, a synagogue in our city has been targeted. Shot at in the middle of the night. This is a violent act of intimidation — and part of a pattern of emboldened antisemitism that has no place in Toronto. It must be stopped. Today, @TPSMyronDemkiw and I met to discuss the ongoing work to keep the Jewish community safe in our city.

Gunshots fired last night at two Toronto synagogues. A third was attacked Monday. Canada now leads the world in gunfire attacks on Jewish institutions. When leaders tolerate mobs targeting Jewish neighborhoods, and apply a double standard to Israel, extremists hear the signal.
