. @URSBHQ has urged entrepreneurs, traders, youth, and SACCOs to utilize movable assets and intellectual property as collateral to access affordable credit. Speaking at the Security Interest in Movable Property (SIMPO) sensitisation workshop in Mbarara, the Registrar General Ms. Mercy K. Kainobwisho said government introduced the Security Interest in Movable Property framework to support people without traditional assets like land. Assets such as phones, laptops, stock, jewelry, and farm produce can now be used to secure loans. Ms. Kainobwisho also noted that URSB has sensitized financial institutions and lenders across the country to promote financial inclusion and support business growth. Uganda’s legal framework also allows intellectual property such as music, books, and innovations to be used as collateral for credit. #SIMPO #MovableProperty #URSB

They removed CD/DVD drives from devices. They made physical media harder to buy and use. They removed expandable storage from phones. They pushed us into streaming subscriptions. They made always-online normal. They made unlimited internet necessary. Then slowly raised the price of everything. Ownership quietly became renting.

First thing you should do after you start making decent money: Buy a tangible and substantial gift for someone who supported you even when nothing was going your way. Real love and loyalty deserve something someone can hold, not just a “thank you.”

We really never learn as Ugandans, do we? We see Anita Among as corrosive, disgusting, and poisonous because her theft, her arrogance, her vulgarity, and her contempt for the public are all on open display. We talk about her like she is the disease itself. But we somehow fail to talk about the NRM establishment with the same anger, the same revulsion, the same urgency. It is as if we cannot see that Anita is not an aberration. She is a portrait; a loud, unfiltered, unedited portrait of everything the NRM has been for the last four decades. The open theft, the lavish self-enrichment, the impunity, the casual cruelty, the obsession with status, the punishing of dissenters, the rewarding of loyalists, the foreign sanctions she has personally attracted from the UK and others, the iron sheets meant for Karamoja ending up in her school, the late-night parliamentary sittings to ram through draconian bills, the security details that shoot unarmed women in broad daylight, the absolute confidence that nothing will ever happen to her, these are all not personal failings. These are the operating principles of the system that produced her. She did not invent any of it. She was trained by it, promoted by it, and protected by it. She is simply the version of the NRM that has stopped pretending; that has washed off the mascara and heaps of face paint. The senior people in the establishment have learned, over the years, to maintain calmness. They speak slowly and well-measured in public. They quote scripture at fundraisers. They donate to schools. They give long speeches about discipline and patriotism. They keep their thieving quieter, more procedural, more buried in paperwork. Anita does the same thing they do, except she does it with her chest. She does it loudly and she’s proud of it. That is the only difference between her and the men above her: the style. This is why she matters beyond herself. She is a window into the inner workings of the entire establishment. If you want to understand what the NRM truly is, do not study the carefully managed image of the President at a state function. Study Anita, study how she behaves when she thinks the cameras are off, and when she has confirmed they are on—study who protects her, who promotes her, who profits with her. Then you will see the whole machine in all its glory. As we cash out on this successful hate watch, as we enjoy the spectacle of her finally being cornered, let us not forget the bigger fight. Removing Anita and replacing her with a less flamboyant Anita in trousers changes nothing. The disgust we are feeling right now is the right emotion. We just need to point it at the real source. The same fury, the same refusal to look away, the same demand for accountability, has to extend to the people who built the conditions for her to thrive, protected her all this while, and will silently find her a soft landing the moment the public moves on. That is the real fight. Everything else is just a distraction.

I went to a nearby shop to buy groceries wearing my usual house dress and hijab. After picking what I needed, I went to the counter to pay. As the shop owner calculated the bill and packed my items, he looked at me and asked the question I get all the time here in Kuwait. “Which country are you from?” Based on my skin color, people can immediately tell that I’m African, but they are always curious to know exactly where I’m from. Without hesitation I replied I’m from Nigeria 🇳🇬. Then came the one million dollar question. “What is your job?” I wasn’t offended because this is another question I get frequently. In many places once people know your country, the next thing they want to know is what brought you to Kuwait. I smiled and answered I’m a nurse. He looked at me again and said, “No, you are Khadama.” For those who may not know "Khadama" refers to domestic workers or house helpers in Kuwait. I have immense respect for these women because they are among the most hardworking people I have ever seen striving to earn an honest living. But I couldn’t help wondering what made him assume I was lying about being a nurse. I took my groceries and went home. The next day before heading to work, I stopped by the same shop this time in my full uniform, with my ID card clearly visible. Usually when I’m outside my workplace, I turn my ID around to hide my details. But on this occasion, I made sure my name, photo, and profession were on full display 😎. As soon as I entered we made eye contact, and just as I expected his eyes went straight to my ID card. At that moment I felt like the heroine in a superhero movie(lol). I smirked, walked to the fridge grabbed a chilled drink and went to the counter. As I paid, he asked, “Are you going to work?” I replied Yes 😌. It is fascinating and sometimes disappointing how some people even those who are not Kuwaiti themselves, find it difficult to believe that Africans can occupy professional and highly respected roles. I have never considered myself an exceptionally accomplished person, but I believe it is our responsibility to show the world that Africans are capable of excelling in any profession anywhere on this planet. We may travel across the world in search of better opportunities, but Nigeria will always be home. UNAPOLOGETICALLY PROUD NIGERIAN NURSE 🇳🇬🩺 Credit: Sumayya Ibrahim Sa'ad Info@sumayyasaad.com

The MUBS Climate Finance and Sustainability Centre held an inception workshop today, for the Climate Adaptation Research-Focused Organisational Capacity Assessment Tool (CO-CAT) under the CLARE Project. The initiative brings together 20 Commonwealth universities across Africa, with MUBS standing out as the only business school participating in the project. In his opening remarks, MUBS Principal @ProfMuhwezi urged academic staff to embrace interdisciplinary research, strengthen grant writing skills and actively compete for global research opportunities, emphasizing that the future of universities will increasingly depend on innovation, partnerships and ground breaking research. The CLARE Project seeks to strengthen institutional capacity for climate adaptation research and promote evidence-based solutions to climate challenges affecting African communities. #MUBS #CLAREProject #ClimateAdaptation #Research #GrantWriting #Sustainability

SOUTH AFRICAN VISAS True South Africa isn’t keeping people’s passports anymore. Thank you for joining the fight. But as I type 15 Ugandan tour operators who have already paid for accommodation, air tickets, paid for stands, paid for the visas, haven’t been given visas over 2 weeks of applying. Above money won’t be refunded. INDABA( Africa tourism fair) starts tomorrow and these guys aren’t telling them what’s happening. Someone has paid for accommodation, they call to cross check yet they have given info. Indaba that takes place in Durban South Africa brings in what we call whole sellers from more than 50 countries, basically opportunities for our tour operators. With the above, you can see why South Africa makes close to a usd 1bn and we make around usd 48m from South Africa and it’s the entrepreneurs who make that difference. If you deny or delay Ugandan business persons, you are tying their hands and telling them to compete. They have the right documentation. The other challenge is people spend up to 4hrs in line handing in their documents, on Friday, I had to wait for @FGimara who spent close to 4hrs, imagine the wasted time? @mofaug what are you doing about this? Can you investigate this? Let our young business people go do business. Let’s push our foreign affairs to do something about this by sharing.

On this day in 1994, Nelson Mandela was inaugurated as the first black president of South Africa, marking the official end of apartheid. Listen to his message – just as relevant now as it was more than thirty years ago – calling all the peoples of the world to "fight racism wherever it occurs and whatever guise it assumes."
