. I’m just staggered that this came into force last week and hardly anyone (especially none of the political parties) are talking about it! Food is going to become even more expensive than it is already and supplies of certain products may become more difficult to get hold of. And if people say “buy local instead” which I do as much as can it’s worth noting that the UK cannot provide enough food to support its own population. We need to import certain goods. Another complete BREXIT S**T SHOW! Let’s have a BRETURN referendum because I still can’t see one single benefit of Brexit! This is from Sky news on Tuesday 30th of April “Border checks on food and plant imports will add billions of pounds to the cost of doing business with the European Union, industry figures have warned. From today European imports considered a “medium risk” to UK biosecurity will face physical inspection as part of a new border regime introduced almost eight years after the Brexit vote, and delayed five times in two years.” #Breturn #BreturnReferendum @campbellclaret @RoryStewartUK @RestIsPolitics

I’ve noticed over the last year that it’s almost impossible to buy scented candles without a glass container, leading to waste. I can’t find anywhere that does the candle on its own. It feels like one little thing that could be improved.

@LJGreenFingers @thriftygreen @spiderkebab Minimum now is around £25/hour. I usually charge by the job rather than hourly rate, but depending on what the job is I'm at £25-£45/hour, minimum charge of £35 for 1st hour. You can't earn a living on £15 per hour

@thriftygreen @spiderkebab Course they shouldn’t be! I was advised £15 an hour minimum, that was the price years ago! I was charging £12.50 with a mates rate discount £10, not even minimum wage! I’m putting my hourly rate up to £15 an hour with a discount for Senior Citizens £12.50 😊

@thriftygreen are put in a gorilla type tub, everything is put back into bucket/tub so can be moved around the site together and no tools get left behind. You could use a small tarp sheet and put all tools on there when you are not using them. When you pack your van an empty sheet is last.

@thriftygreen Top tips. Never return to the van empty handed, when you have completed a particular task, take that tool to the van when you go to get something else out/grab your lunch/tea break etc. I carry all small hand tools in a bucket, likewise loppers, debris sheets, other larger tools

Here’s a fun fact, Monsanto (the roundup chemical villain) is the largest seed company in the world and accounts for more than 27% of the proprietary seed market. This makes me utterly SICK!

@MediumConsumer @coileyparjley One of the florist wholesalers I buy from is a large Dutch company that have cash and carry outlets across the UK. The branch I use do source some plants, especially bedding and basket from a few local grower within 10 miles of the branch. But the most other stuff is imported.

When I started on a nursery in 1982 all plant retailers had access to a regional supplier. This meant that when sales dropped they could deliver smaller orders to keep displays fresh and colourful

Any entomologists who could tell me what this creature is going to be? It’s causing much excitement for my son’s reception class tucked behind the tape for the hosepipe at school.

@lovely_plot That's a good price, I paid £400 for a 30 X 10 a few years ago. If I lived closer I would be tempted to buy, but I couldn't get there, take it down and back home in one day...too far.

As the gardening season is just starting (don't argue, tis the start)... What exciting, new plants are you going to grow next year? I'm going for heirlooms, lots of different squashes, sweet potatoes (😏) various types of aubergines and tomatoes and flower-wise... more dahlias😁

What is the book at primary school (I'll do secondary later) that you most remember a teacher reading or sharing with the class or introducing you to? (Me: Emil and the Detectives, and Hue and Cry, the novelisation of the film (and, as it happens a kind of English Emil!)
