Oscar, word for word agreeing with you on this one.
After having to write a whole essay for school on how tough it is to advertise for a casino as a future communications manager, I decided to get a student job in one just to see what that world was really like. It gave me a way better idea of who’s playing, why they play, how they get or stay addicted, what it does to them, and how casinos try to find loopholes around the laws.
I worked for three months in back-end support at an online casino in Belgium as a student job. That world is dark, scary, and, above all, very real.
I dealt with players from all over the world (online) and handled tasks for various casinos under that same brand in Belgium (physical). My job was to check IDs to see if players were banned, spot money laundering, make sure bank accounts matched the players, check for stolen credit cards, etc.
One thing’s for sure: Habbos being mad about Habbo banning gambling, have no idea of the inner workings of a casino or gambling site. It’s way more complicated than you’d think, requiring 24/7 support and a whole team dedicated to just manage it.
To comply with the laws of different countries, a separate client would need to be created to monitor and handle the gambling activities. I truly believe that that would be the only way gambling would ever be coming back to the hotels (in a legal point of view)…
