@chancurre It's more about "if he has to lose, we might as well make him lose in something that is more prestigious in our eyes" something like that. But imo racing a horse in its expertise is the best option bc it can lead to unexpected wins so

@Nemnemi2 also i think people saying he has no winning prospects in japan are vastly underestimating him to a disrespectful degree. if he can't win in japan why would he win in france lol. their logic is actually insane

the insane double standard of people hooting for tabaru to go to france (despite clearly not being a well fit for it) but being cagey about croix going is not lost on me

@chancurre Yeah, that's part of what I thought too. I completely get where you're coming from, I gen don't understand why would someone even risk a good horse on such low chances... I really hope the horse comes out of it unscathed, for what it's worth...

@Nemnemi2 a sensitive horse be guaranteed a controlled environment where he can stay calm? i don't want him to carry mental scars because of this. ironically i believe he is brave and mentally strong, but why take such a massive risk?

@chancurre From my understanding it's bc Tabaru doesn't have winning prospects in JP so they think an attempt at l'Arc won't mess too much with his future career but I personally disagree, I'm afraid he can get easily injured :C also he thrives on 2000m at most like...

i'm #1 france expedition hater but it's not like there's 0 merit in croix going if he could take 3200m in jp? why is everyone hollering for a horse that is ostensibly a miler to go just cuz he can run on soft when he can't even take 2500 in NAK, not even considering his aptitudes

@cherry_mille If I'm not wrong, Vodka is one of the last horses to win a g1 without SunSil line (Jantar Mantar being a more recent example). Even if Dantsu didn't have success in stud duty, he could've been made into a riding horse. The way his story is overlooked makes me incredibly sad

@Nemnemi2 this!! when i first learned dantsu's cause of death, i was so upset by the mistreatment he faced. you'd never think such a cruel and careless ending happened to a strong G1 winner and runner up of 2/3 triple crown 😭 i hope he can rest well up there....

@cherry_mille In the end, he collected many records (1st to win a g1 in 4 main racecourses, 1st to get Triple Autumn, the one with the biggest g1 slam in JP etc). For a horse that started with unfavorable pedigree and physique, this was beyond expectations. And his legacy cohexists with Pokkes

@Nemnemi2 whenever rhe story of 2001 arima kinen popped out, i want to cry because how bittersweet it was 😭 despite favoring 01 gen overall, it really hurts how close ope was to a record breaking 8 G1 victories, esp with 2001 JC only losing by a neck margin.....

@cherry_mille I'm trying to broaden my horizons a bit, as I got mostly involved with the Ayabe/TopRo/Doto/Ope group and the TDC/SKrisS/RobRoy group (if we skip Kurofune e co.) It's only natural to go back and cover my weakness on the 01gen, esp when they're so tightly related to the story

@Nemnemi2 i feel the same way! i honestly think that to truly understand pokke's character and why was her career Like That, i had to understand the broader picture of what happened to him and the whole 01 gen. so it's really nice to be able to talk about it with you oomf!

@cherry_mille All in all a tragic generation who saw many great horses pull out too soon. But I love how Cyge found a way to give each one of them a different perspective, while tying it all together in a bigger narrative. The writing keeps impressing me

@Nemnemi2 -leg condition, the racecourse change affected him that he finished 5th, and later 7th in arima kinen before he retired at just 4y.o.... even when being one of the last stars of 01 gen pokke's ending was still very unfortunate 😔 seriously, what was even happening that year

@cherry_mille It's actually nice to receive so much information on a horse I didn't get to research much about through simple communication. This convo is so refreshing and it's revealing to me so many aspects of Pokke that I didn't know... her character looks so well-rounded now!

@Nemnemi2 -performance in sapporo kinen and kikka sho but if we're talking about the leg problems that caused him to retire, it started a little bit before 2002 takarazuka kinen (which was supposed to be his rematch against dantsu) which caused him to withdraw from the rest

@cherry_mille I wrote Finemo as a mistake (Cause I tend to write about the two of them often) but I meant TDC who is from 2000 but whose achievements of those years are ignored due to his later years being more recognized (also would be perfect for AgFlight story lol)

@cherry_mille I usually botch my texts bc of the word limit 😭 otherwise I would've specified further. But it's true, AgFlight was part of the very specific 2000 with Shakur/TDC who ended up being forgotten - while Tachyon was hyped to be even better of Agnes Flight who was a Derby Winner

@cherry_mille Truly sad to see. If I remember right, Pokke started having leg problems even before JC... (Dantsu being probably the worst ending imo). Yet, not only they burned bright, but also broke records, with Pokke being the first 3y old colt to get both JC and Derby in the same year, no?

@Nemnemi2 too bad in the end, even though pokke and cafe showed incredible strength during their classic year against older horses, they began to "crumble down" in senior year 01 gen is very powerful and was fated to be a lot of things, but sadly they have an unfortunate fate, huh....

@cherry_mille The 2001 Arima Kinen who was painful for Wada, who wanted to win it with Opera O so he would retire the same way Oguri did... I honestly always wonder how Kurofune's story would be adapted, bc he too would end up finishing his career early

@Nemnemi2 -first one of his/her generation to go neck-to-neck with a very powerful senior horse, really was the one who opened up the path to the beginning of a new era... not to mention it's quickly followed by cafe's 2001 arima kinen win that happened exactly at opera o's last race

BTW, because I'm working on compiling an article about TM Opera O, I've been searching the internet for Ope pics and found 2 people who allege this is foal Opera O and mama Once Wed. Still couldn't manage to verify the sources but I'll post it in case anyone knows #TmOperaO

*I forgot to note: Opera O run in the Arima Kinen 3 times and won once. The run Wada is frustrated of losing is the 2001 Arima Kinen against Pokke because he wanted Opera to retire like Oguri Cap 😭

@rynrynsignals It's theorized this is young Opera, even if no confirmation. But Ope appears in Cyngrey as Rudolf talks about the Oguri Cap rule changing the fate of Uma kind. Because the references are so essential to the characters, it's wildly agreed upon this is her 🥺
