Solar panels can cover some part of the daily consumption. People pushing it as a holy grail solution to energy supply must be fought using facts about actual costs of generating electricity to cover the baseline load, not just few hours during the day. The claim in this article about solar power plant providing energy for 2.67 million people is a lie.

I didn’t say the solar panels they have create enough power for 1.5 billion people, especially in rural areas. They continue to build coal plants because they work, and like I said above… They spent billions on this solar panel setup because it works. Are you really trying to justify all of this being for show?

You are aware of the fact that Chinese continue to build coal-fired power plants, right? Why would they do it if solar+batteries was a competitive solution for increased baseline consumption? Their strategy is solar+coal+batteries. In this scheme, batteries are needed to provide dynamic inertia and voltage support in remote parts of the network where they build solar power plants. Batteries are not used for long term energy storage.

How about winter time, when far less solar energy is available; it is quite obvious that overbuilding battery storage to collect all the excess energy during summer is cost prohibitive. Another problem is increased consumption: look at the race to build “data centers” in the USA. That is a large addition to the baseline load. The same is true about charging electrical vehicles. China‘s electrical energy consumption also follows significant growth. Yet they keep building coal power plants, not relying on expensive solar + batteries solution.

Night time load is far less than day time, so less capacity is needed, meaning less batteries, and with solar... you don't need to buy input fuel

One needs to overbuild both solar panels and the battery capacity at least 7 times under ideal assumption, to store enough energy to cover the base load.
