Ka-band allows Planet to download gigabytes of imagery to a ground station in a fraction of the time it would take using legacy systems. • C-Band: While lower frequency than Ka-band, C-band is highly resistant to "rain fade" (signal degradation due to weather). It provides a highly reliable, robust channel for commanding the satellite, ensuring that tasking orders (telling the satellite where to look) are received instantly and reliably, regardless of weather conditions over the ground station. In the defense, intelligence, and financial sectors, an image is only valuable if you get it quickly. $BKSY has historically held a strong edge in latency, heavily marketing their ability to task a satellite and deliver an image in under 90 minutes. Planet's upgrade to Ka-band directly targets this. By downloading massive images faster, Planet can significantly reduce the time between when an image is snapped and when it appears on a customer's screen.
