On this day in 1972, the final daily rum ration was issued to sailors in the Royal Canadian Navy. It is known as Black Tot Day. The Royal Navy had ended its daily rum ration in 1970. For special occasions, like the 100th anniversary of the RCN, a rum ration is issued.

On this day in 1960, the right to vote in federal elections was extended to all Indigenous People in Canada. Prior to this, the right to vote only happened if they gave up their status and treaty rights.

OPP North West Region
On Saturday, March 28, #OPP Inspector Ben Curtis and Mental Health Clinician Jenn Roukkula spent the night sleeping in their cars to help raise awareness about homelessness across North West Region. As part of the @uwaytbay-initiative Sleepless in Thunder Bay, their efforts contributed to raising over $50,000 in support of local programs throughout the region. The experience served as brief yet powerful reminder of how easily basic comforts can be taken for granted - and how difficult life can be without them. Every effort counts. Help where and when you can. #StayAwakeWithUs ^kr

This day in 1945, the final German V-1 flying bomb is launched on the UK, and struck at Datchworth, Hertfordshire. The last enemy action of any kind on British soil. Approx 9,500 V-1 "buzz bombs" were fired at south-east England in 1944 and 1945. #WW2

It’s #SomethingOnAStickDay, and with sugar shack season still happening, we’re highlighting maple taffy! Sweet, stretchy, and way more complicated than it looks. The syrup must reach 112–116°C, or you’ll end up with slush or a maple brick. What other food is best served on a stick?

A dead US Paratrooper of the 17th Airborne Division suspended from his parachute in a tree near Wesel, Germany during Operation Varsity - March 24, 1945... Operation Varsity was the largest single-day airborne operation in history, launched in support of the Allied push into Germany. Thousands of American and British paratroopers were deployed behind enemy lines under heavy fire, facing anti-aircraft guns, small arms, and hazardous landing zones filled with trees and urban obstacles. The cost was immediate and visible, many soldiers never made it to the ground alive, becoming caught in trees or exposed in open fields. More than 16,000 airborne troops participated in Operation Varsity, and despite its success, the 17th Airborne Division alone suffered over 1,300 casualties in a single day. © Historical Photos #archaeohistories

The Muhammad Ali - George Chuvalo fight on March 29, 1966 at Maple Leaf Gardens was legendary. The fight went the distance, with Ali calling Chuvalo the toughest man he ever fought. After the fight, Chuvalo went dancing, while Ali went to the hospital. This is the story. 🧵 1/10
