🗣️ Indira Jaisingh: “The UGC rules are still not sufficient. They don’t cover the private sector, IITs or IIMs.” 👉 Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has STAYED the UGC Regulations 2026. Until then, their operation remains in ABEYANCE.

Abhishek was just 5 when he was put into an orphanage. In a tragedy, his mother had died and father was jailed on charges of abetting her suicide. When he was 17, @KanoongoPriyank - as then chairperson of National Child Commission - visited the orphanage for routine check-up. Abhishek and other kids used that opportunity to complain that they desperately wanted to quit but had nowhere to go. They narrates their story. THEN, WITH EFFORTS OF PRIYANK JI, - FIR was filed against orphanage managers Jerald Alameda and Lisi Joseph under Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, 2021 in May 2023 Complaint by Abhishek and others said - ‘despite being Hindus, they were compelled to participate in Christian prayers, prevented from visiting temples, and subjected to psychological and religious coercion’ - Foster parents were arranged for him, where he stayed till he turned 18 last year NOW, - Abhishek’s father is out of jail and they are living together. In a pleasant surprise, the two have bonded despite meeting rarely all these years - We - @sewanyaya in collaboration with @networkforjus - have helped Abhishek in taking his voice to Supreme Court in the soon-to-be-heard petitions filed by likes of Jamiat Ulema and Teesta Setalvad, challenging Freedom of Religions Acts enacted by various states - Abhishek, who is from a scheduled caste, has pleaded that he is a direct victim of the pattern of forced conversions and outcome of the hearings will directly impact his own rights in the ongoing criminal case filed by him. Supreme Court is expected to start hearing the petitions in three days

I have been informed by activists opposing the proposal to lower the age of consent that invitations to attend the launch of a report and participate in an open discussion were extended to several major media houses — including @TOIIndiaNews, @htTweets, and the @UN agency @UNICEFIndia — all of whom have been consistently advocating for lowering the age of consent, effectively decriminalising sexual activity with minors. However, it is deeply concerning and disappointing that none of them chose to attend or listen to the other side of this crucial debate. Such one-sided engagement and selective advocacy risk creating a biased narrative in the public space — shaping perception in their favour while silencing voices that raise legitimate concerns about child protection and exploitation. Balanced and inclusive dialogue is essential, especially when the issue at stake is as sensitive and serious as the safety and rights of children.

We won’t let that happen. Ever since we learnt about the attempt to get age of sexual consent lowered through Supreme Court, where “interfaith relationships” in the plea was a total giveaway for what the agenda is, @sewanyaya got to work. We: - published a comprehensive research report with a special paper by @SanjeevSanskrit - released it in constitution club in presence of over 50 activists from across India -got 2000 copies printed of the report and distributed it to various institutes and departments -held several meetings and talks taking inputs from doctors, lawyers, women and child activists, SC activists -filed an intervention petition The solid team behind it: @NetworkforJus @nidhikartikey @ShaktiSingh739 @Jyotsna__Singh @SalujaSanat Gratitude to @KanoongoPriyank for the guidance and inputs
