Today (May 24) in #NLMusicHistory... In 1986 the NF Herald reviewed Whitehorse's 1st LP "Dangerous Waters". They were "the fastest-rising traditional group in the province." John R. Murphy's accordion was highlighted - just 19 yrs old & sings like an old sea-salt! @geoffmeeker

Today (May 19) in #NLMusicHistory... In 1984, The NFLD Herald reported that St. John's rock band 12 GAUGE was making enormous strides forward. They had enough material for a second album, and were set to embark on a tour of all stadiums on the Island. @geoffmeeker @JohnHutton1

Today (May 16) in #NLMusicHistory... In 1979, NFLD's "First Lady of the Accordion", MINNIE WHITE, graced the cover of The NFLD Herald TV Week, NL's largest publication. Before that, she was profiled in Weekend Magazine, Canada's biggest-selling publication. @AccordionBruce

Today (May 15) in #NLMusicHistory... In 1968, The Evening Telegram reported that MARY LOU COLLINS career was on wheels! Fresh from USA tours with Bob Hope & Jack Benny, Mary Lou wants to be known as a Canadian. She was in St. John's to film a commercial for EPA.

Today (May 14) in #NLMusicHistory... In 1965 Joey Smallwood's career was on wheels as the Liberals held their 15th Annual Ball at St. John's Memorial Stadium. MARY LOU COLLINS' career was in high gear too. She likely sang "Hello Joey". Check it out! dropbox.com/scl/fi/et061c4…

Today (May 12) in #NLMusicHistory... In 1965, The Daily News reported that THE VISCOUNTS were ready to appear in St. John's after playing the Avalon Peninsula for a year. Band spokesman, GORD TRACEY, later became "NFLD's Elvis" & recorded two LP's with THE CONSTELLATIONS!

Today (May 10) in #NLMusicHistory... In 1989, "Hank Williams-The Show He Never Gave" starring RON HYNES, debuted in St. John's. "The set & costumes area authentic, the music is fantastic, & Hynes' acting is realistic." The show was booked for 11 nights but cancelled after five.

Today (May 9) in #NLMusicHistory... In 1968 an AD in The Daily News announced that NFLD's TV & Recording Star - "The King of The Keyboard" LLOYD BURRY, would play two extra shows at MUN's "Little Theatre"! He plays his own specially engineered Hammond! @SeanWMurray @PaulKinsman
